LUIS MANUEL DAMIAO DE MELO It is with deepest sorrow that after a brief battle with cancer, the Melo family announces the passing of Luis Manuel Damiao De Melo, at the age of 51. Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Joaquim and Maria Leonor and his brother Rui. Luis was born in Angra Do Heroismo, Terceira, Acores, Portugal. He and his family immigrated to Winnipeg on February 21, 1975, where he attended Tech. Voc. high school, with an interest in photography courses. He later worked as a cab driver for Duffy's Taxi. In 2002, Luis and his family moved back to Portugal where he worked in the hotel industry in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Acores. Luis enjoyed and spent many hours on the computer, enjoyed computer gaming and music. The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their care of Luis during his time there, and would particularly wish to thank Dr. J.B. Johnston and Erin at CancerCare Manitoba for their care of Luis during his illness. Funeral Services for Luis will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin St. Luis will be interred in Sao Miguel, Acores at a later date. I met Luis when I emigrated from France in 1980.Luis was a great guy gentle and funny.Always lesson to others peoples problems before his own. I used ride all night in his cab and he would drop me off at work at 7:30 in the morning. So sorry to hear about him being sick. I remember going for rides in Luis New York style Taxi. He was always smiling and laughing. Although we hadn't seen him for a long time, we thought and spoke of him from time to time.
