Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIAN EDITH BLAIN (née ARCHER) November 16, 1911 - December 29, 2012 At peace with the world and her Lord, Marian Blain passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Having lived a very full life for 101 years, she was surrounded with love at her bedside by her children Madeline, Philip and Barbara and son-in-law, Bob. Memories of Marian will be cherished not only by her three children but also by 13 grandchildren, Elizabeth, James, Louise, Jonathan, Camilla, Alex, Jessica, Harry, Diana, Tom, Deborah, Michael and Samuel and 12 great-grandchildren Daniel, Bryan, Hannah, Andrea, Sarah, Isabel, Genevieve, Samantha, Timothy, Tristan, Anna and Alena. She is also survived by her nieces Alayne and Kathy, and nephew Richard. Marian was predeceased by her husband, Fred Blain (in 1988), her elder brothers Edgar and Phil Archer and her parents Percy and Edith Archer. Marian was born in Winnipeg just a few years after her parents had emigrated from England. She was a bright little girl, attending an early model' school for gifted children, as well as Laura Secord School and Kelvin High School, where she graduated in 1929. Also having grown into a beautiful young woman, she married Fred Blain, the fortunate suitor of many, in 1930, at the tender age of 19. Her marriage to Fred was blessed by love, happiness and family for the next 58 years. Marian loved singing and had a wonderful coloratura soprano voice. One passion of hers was listening to opera, anywhere, anytime, whether live in a theatre or regularly on the Saturday afternoon radio shows in her kitchen. The extraordinary attributes of Marian's personality were many. She was always gracious and courteous, and ready to help out friends in need. She always rooted for the underdog, and had neither fear nor favour for those who put on airs and graces. She had a deep love and fierce loyalty to all members of her family. Marian was a devout Christian, which no doubt will have underpinned her courage and bravery whenever called upon, especially as she lived through her final days. Perhaps most pronounced was her great sense of humour. She advised all her children and grandchildren that this trait was essential to living a life of fulfillment and to having successful, loving relationships with marriage partners. The family all send their love with Marian, as she joins her Lord in Heaven and meets Fred and many friends again, for eternal peace and happiness. They will always remember her profound love and constancy as a mother and the true beauty of her inner qualities and character, as a very special woman. Marian's family especially wishes to thank the wonderful staff members at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, for their love and excellent caregiving attention over her final years. A Memorial Service for Marian will be held at St. Aidan's Anglican Church on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the Service the family will attend the interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. North, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2N6. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
