JENNIE LILLIAN YOUNGMAN Jennie left this earth peacefully at the age of 78 years, after a life full of love, laughter and what she always said was her proudest achievement in life: raising her two kids. Jennie is survived by her son, John; her daughter, Diane; her niece, Karen; and her nephew, Stephen. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary; her brother, Steve; and her sister, Dolly. She also leaves to mourn her many long-time friends whom she deeply cherished. Jennie instilled in her children the importance of hard work, education and an appreciation for the things in life that are truly important. She was an extraordinary and devoted mother who worked tirelessly to provide the best for her family: a meticulous home, fabulous meals and an enriching environment for her kids to grow up in that included swimming, piano, art, ballet, hockey, football and figure-skating. She taught by example the importance of class, perseverance, poise and dignity. What her children have achieved in life simply would not have been possible without their mother's firm but loving hand. Later in life, Jennie would become a best friend to her children, always there with the perfect advice to smooth over life's bumps and make everything okay. Jennie sure knew how to laugh, and possessed a wicked sense of humour. She had a particular affinity for Jewish comics of the day: Don Rickles, Shecky Greene, Jackie Mason, Jack Benny, Totie Fields and her beloved Myron Cohen. She loved nothing more than to put on their records and share a good laugh at family gatherings. Jennie was a consummate lady who had a keen sense of style she expressed in countless ways -- fashion, interior design, entertaining -- which translated into a beautiful home for her family. Jennie loved animals and held an innate reverence for all living things. Her heart went out to the tiny, the shunned and and the overlooked of this world. Many a creature was better off because of Jennie's compassion, and the compassion for animals she instilled in her children. It is not possible to express in words the intelligent, loving, complex and incredibly courageous woman who was Jennie. The world has lost a rare, gentle and beautiful soul -- a true class act -- who will be sorely missed. A private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Craig Street Cats, a non-profit feral-cat rescue and adoption organization, 489 Madison St., Winnipeg, R3J 1J2. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Dear John and Diane Your mom Was a very dear friend of mine when we were teenagers. I loved her sense of humour(she always made me laugh) and her sense of style. She taught me a lot about style and at times we would play dress-up. One day she dressed me In a fur coat and a sharp looking hat, had me pose and then she would snap pictures. I looked pretty darn good when she guided me. We kind of parted ways when I was transferred in my job to Vancouver. She was my bridesmaid in August 1956. She was my best friend for not enough years. One of our favourite treats before or after a movie was chips and gravy. She was a wonderful, wonderful friend. I feel very sad at this moment. - Posted by: Jennie Barton (FRIEND) on: Mar 01, 2013
