SHEILA HAUK The family of Sheila Hauk would like to announce her peaceful passing on January 4, 2013, at the age of 82. Sheila leaves behind her husband Norman, of 42 years. Also left to cherish her memory are her five children: Lynn (David) Mooney of Bedfordshire, England, Robert (Danna) Cummings of Parksville, BC, Karel (Kevin) Henderson of Langley, BC, Mark Hauk of Blackpool, England and Sherry (Wayne) Bakos of Winnipeg, MB. Sheila's legacy continues on in her grandchildren: Amanda, Karen, Chelsea, Angela, Michael, Jamie, Anthony and Evan; as well as her great-grandchildren, Luke, Abigail, Josh, Christian, Trinity, Matthew, Seth and Peyton. Sheila was born in Todmorden, Yorkshire, England on July 14, 1930. She was predeceased by her parents William and Grace Greenwood and her first husband Fred. A few years ago she also lost her mother-in-law and best friend Muriel Hauk. We like to think they are together again chatting like always over a cup of tea. After marrying Norman in Hemel Hempstead, England in 1970, Sheila and the family immigrated to Canada. There began the journey that took them to many locations in this beautiful country. They included Winnipeg and Churchill, MB, Hay River, NWT, Watson Lake and Whitehorse, YT then finally back to Winnipeg in 1987. While living in "The North", Sheila honed her sewing skills by teaching herself to make amazing Inuit style parkas and sewing clothes for the kids. Her favourite pastime by far, and the one that she was best known for, was her knitting. She would knit anything for anyone whether it was blankets, baby clothes or sweaters. She was always knitting even if there was no specific item needed. Sheila also enjoyed reading a good mystery novel, Agatha Christie being her favourite. She read the entire collection many times - never seeming to tire of the same stories over and over again. She enjoyed her Fridays at Deer Lodge with her friends at the Get Away Club where she had been a member for the past 16 years. Sheila was also known for her quirky sayings such as: Fish cakes to you Mate! and C'mon Buggerlugs! And every now and then she would recite Yorkshire's Motto: Ear all, see all, say nowt; Yet all, sup all, pay nowt; And if ivver that does owt fer nowt- Allus do it fer thissen Whatever it was she was saying, it always brought a smile and a chuckle to the people around her. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will begin 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment and Reception will follow the service. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • Enjoyed meeting Sheila at a farewell dinner I and my friend Don made on Thanksgiving before I left the province and it was a delight to see her enjoy the food served. She was full of wit and jokes. Rest in peace Sheila. - Posted by: Claudette Veinotte (aacquaintance) on: Jan 10, 2013

  • Dear Sheila, I remember you from when I was 11 years old. My family moved to Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead Herts England. You came and introduced yourself to my Mum, and that is how I met lovely Lynn, your daughter. We became best friends, and still are. I remember with affection Robert, Carol, and Mark. You, Sheila, were friends with my Mum, as you were an agent for Outdoor Girl Makeup. That friendship continued, until the sad loss of Mr Fred cummings. With kindest regards to your family. • I had the pleasure of having Norman and Sheila brought into my life 10 years ago. Her great personality and charming accent won me over right away, as she would say from then on we got along like a house on fire! But I have to tell you, I didn't realize for the longest time she was swearing at me, at which time my name became buggerlugs, and was told she was going to give me a bunch of fives little did I know that was a smack hehehe. From the first day I met you mom you treated me like one of your kids I love you and I will miss you. But you will always be in my heart. XOXOXO. • Sheila took care of our daughter for about the first year of her life and from there on we became good friends. Lots of cups of tea and nattering as she would say or maybe the odd beer.
