ROMAN KUNCE
Born: Aug 10, 1927
Date of Passing: Jan 08, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROMAN KUNCE Roman Kunce passed away peacefully on January 8, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Roman was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Lorenz, and his brother, Stefan. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Lissy, his children, Sybil, Yvonne and Raymond (Ley). His grandsons, Josh, Michael, Max and Simon will miss their Opa. Roman was born on August 10, 1927 in Zdunska-Wola, Poland. After the war, he moved to Berlin where he met his beautiful Lissy. They immigrated to Winnipeg in the 1950s, married and started their family. Roman was a hard-working steel construction worker for 30 years and a broken ankle at the age of 60 led him to a second career he loved as a health care aid. Roman was so very helpful and kind to many people both in his own neighbourhood and in the church community. He was a devout member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and participated as an altar boy, a Eucharistic minister and as a member of the Kolping Society and the Parochial Society. He was a 40-year member of the German Society of Winnipeg. Roman loved to sing and his beautiful tenor voice was heard in both the German and the church choirs. One of his passions was "Pilze-schiessen" - hunting for the elusive Pfifferlinge mushrooms for hours in the bush. A successful hunt always brought a big smile to his face. His care for others extended to those he did not know as the Red Cross recognized Roman for making over 100 blood donations. For many years he was an active member of the North Centennial Seniors Group and loved volunteering with the swim program for the daycare children. Roman was a clever handyman who kept his home (and his children's homes) in wonderful shape. To find him in the house or garden, you just had to follow the whistling. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Richard Blouw, the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate care. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8, http://www.vgh.mb.ca/foundation/; or any charity of your choice. Yvonne, meine liebe Freundin in Canada! Hugs and Kiss, - Posted by: Gabi Rabe (geb. Januszewski) () on: Apr 26, 2016

I am so sorry to hear of Roman's passing. I have very fond memories of the entire Kunce family since childhood. My parents and the Kunces were good friends and their children and I used to play together when the adults came together. I always remember Roman as a gentle man. As a child I never was intimidated by him. He was always friendly. I know he will be missed dearly by many. - Posted by: Harold Weiss (Old family friend) on: Jan 11, 2013
