RHODA MAY SHABAGA (nee MACDONALD) March 25, 1929 - January 15, 2013 It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Rhoda Shabaga at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a three month struggle to recover from a stroke. She is remembered by Paulette (Maurice) Deforel, Glenn (Ruth) Shabaga, Vernon Shabaga, Roxanne Poole, Blair Shabaga, Mark (Anne) Shabaga, Adrian (Marilyn) Shabaga and Grant (Tammy) Shabaga; her grandchildren Lynette (Adam) Olson, Gregory (Tamera) Shabaga, Ainslie (Julian) Rimmer, Jaisen Shabaga and great-grandchildren Riasa, Sloane, Ethan, Lee, Blake. Predeceased by parents Minnie Gagen and Tom MacDonald as well as her sisters, Doreen Patterson and Joyce O'Neill. After school Mom worked in Eriksdale, at a nursing station and at Eaton's. Once her children were in school, Rhoda spent time working at a restaurant/gas station in St. Martin. Rhoda moved back to Winnipeg and worked at the Holiday Inn, as a switchboard operator for 19 years. Rhoda also enjoyed travel, was known for her sewing, knitting and crocheting, plus crafts. Rhoda loved her card games with her friends at Riverbend Plaza. Special thanks to the staff who cared for Mom at the St. Boniface Hospital. Relatives and friends will be received at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, January 21.   • I worked with Rhoda for 11 years at the Holiday Inn. She was the "keeper" of the switchboard and "mother" to a lot of us and boy if you didn't answer when she paged you'd better have a good excuse!   • "Rhoda speaking "! is one of the first thoughts that come to mind. That and her unique sense of humor, her laugh, and all of the wonderful items she crafted. Everything from knitted slippers that looked like running shoes to special aprons and pillows that she made ! I worked with Rhoda during all her years at Holiday Inn and she was such a kind and careing person.
