IRENE LUSIA MANN (nee LINDSKOOG) Irene Mann passed away on January 10, 2013 at Tyndall House in Selkirk MB at 91 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Canadian composer Leslie Mann in 1977, her brother Dr. Ted Lindskoog in 1991 and her son Earl in 2004. She is survived by her son Brian, and remembered fondly by family in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Toronto and Ottawa. Always ready with a distinct opinion, kind word and sharp wit Irene will be missed by her many students in the Balmoral district, the lunchtime collective at the Balmoral Community Centre, and by the residents of Sprucewood Place. Music brought joy, love and sustenance to Irene's life. A gifted pianist, she enjoyed an early partnership with her violinist brother in Edmonton, AB. Marriage took her to Toronto where she further expanded her musical connections. Settling in Balmoral in 1958 Irene continued to nurture the musical community through her performing and teaching. Irene's family is most appreciative of the care she received by the doctors, nurses and staff at Tyndall House. She was blessed with caring friends who gave great support as her health declined. Thank you to Claudette, Cathy and especially Charlotte. Cremation has taken place and as Irene wished there will be no service. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Brian. We have just returned from spending the winter in Nanaimo, B.C. We were really sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I remember the special times with your mom. She not only taught me piano and the love of music, but also took me to see the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet when I was younger. This was the first time for such an experience. I often was really lucky when your dad and mom played duets together for me after a lesson. It was very speciall.Through the years your mother and I always kept in touch. We phoned each other, sent cards and letters, and during the summer I visited her in Balmoral. Often my mother or some of my sisters were with me when we visited your mother. I will always treasure her friendship throughout the years and will miss her very much. Our thoughts are with you, Brian. Sincerely, Dean & Joan Holliston (. Slater ), Morden, MB. - Posted by: JoanHolliston (Slater ) (Former piano student and lifelong friend) on: Mar 23, 2013

  • Irene Mann was my unofficial music critic and would never hesitate to share her opinion on anything I played for her; an opinion that I fully trusted and believed in. She had a marvellously gifted ear and truly understood what music is all about. Her inspiration and clever sense of humour will always be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Ralph Lavalley (from the Gunton tower) on: Jan 22, 2013

  • We are deeply saddened by the news of Irene's passing. She was a dear friend of my parents, Nancy and Tony Antonacci, and we have many fond memories of visits to Balmoral to visit Irene and Les when we were kids. Irene telephoned me just a few months ago to ask how my mother was doing in her new retirement home. I had a long conversation with her, and was amazed how sharp she sounded at 91. It was the same Irene that I remembered. She had kind words to say about my late father, and mom and we had a lovely chat. I'm so glad we did. On behalf of the Antonacci family: Nancy, Paul, David and Linda, we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Brian Mann, Janice Lindskoog, and all of Irene's family and friends. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Linda Antonacci (Friend) on: Jan 21, 2013

  • Mrs. Mann was one of my greatest influences musically and was also a great friend. She taught me so much about music - not just learning the notes, but learning to appreciate music and really listen to what the music had to say. Mrs. Mann was the kindest teacher - she gave me my love of music and really started my journey as a musician and music teacher. Thank you Mrs. Mann for all you have given to not only myself but to so many people. I will remember our lessons and visits together fondly and always enjoy playing and singing your music. I feel extremely honoured to have been one of your music students. - Posted by: Lisa Cosens Brillon (piano and theory student) on: Jan 19, 2013

  • Irene Mann was an amazing woman who gave of her talents to so many of her music students. Her ability to motivate and encourage others was a special gift which had an incredible impact on her students. I am pleased to have known her and appreciated what she did for my daughter.
