DOROTHY HOFLEY (LOVELACE)
Born: Jun 08, 1925
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY HOFLEY (nee LOVELACE) It is with a great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Dorothy Hofley, on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Predeceased by her husband Dean in 2002, she is survived by her children Kathryn Hofley, Barbara Schneider and her husband Russ, Jennifer Hofley, and Eric Hofley and his wife Hali, along with her beloved grandsons Justin Schneider and his wife Allison, Jonathan Schneider, Marcus Hofley and his partner Autumn Corby, and Brendan Hofley. She leaves behind her brother Harold (Chid) Lovelace, her brother-in-law John Hofley and his wife Dolores Minkus-Hofley, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Mom was born in Souris, MB on June 8, 1925, and moved to Winnipeg's "west-end" when she was nine. She and Dad married in 1951 and lived in Sault Ste. Marie while Dad sailed tankers on the Great Lakes. When they decided to start a family Dad took an office job at Ontario Pulp and Paper on the Manitoulin Island, located on Lake Huron. While they loved the Island, in 1959 they moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to their families. Many of Mom's happiest times were spent with Dad, family and friends at the cottage in Redditt, ON. She spent 48 summers at the lake and, rain or shine, enjoyed every minute of each and every one of them. The humming birds she so enjoyed, and all those who knew her, will sorely miss her company there. Mom was one who found tremendous joy in the simple things in life. She appreciated what she had, lived for her family, and embraced them all with love and enthusiasm. While Alzheimer's took its toll in recent years, her smile, and the little wink that often accompanied it, never faded, nor failed to bring a similar expression to anyone lucky enough to catch it. A special thanks to Mom's caregivers at the Irene Baron Eden Centre, the Misericordia Health Centre Cornish Wing 6, and most recently the River East Personal Care Home. Your professional yet personal and gentle care and concern for Mom was greatly appreciated by Mom, and our entire family. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street on Friday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Janet Walker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sunshine Fund, a charity Mom supported which assists children who do not have the financial means through parents, guardians or agencies to attend a summer camp (302-960 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0R4), or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, would be greatly appreciated. Mom enjoyed a cocktail now and then, so please, pour yourself a drink of your favourite beverage and raise your glass in her memory. She'd like that! We'll all miss you Mom.
