MARY GOWER Mary Lynne Gower, beloved wife of the late Leonard Neil Gower of Winnipeg, MB, passed away on January 18, 2013, at the age of 72, after a two year battle with breast cancer. Mary was born in Winnipeg on October 16, 1940; the only child of Mary and Neil McTavish. She graduated from Miles Macdonell High School in 1957 and from Angus School of Commerce in 1958. In 1969, she and Neil were married and settled in Winnipeg. After working several years at Sherwin-Williams, Mary was appointed Manager of the Granite Curling Club of Winnipeg, a position she held for 26 years until her retirement. Mary's contribution to the Granite was recognized in 2010 when, on the occasion of her 70th birthday, she was presented with a Life Membership - the only woman to be so recognized. In the years immediately preceding her retirement, Mary and Neil built on to their cabin at Sandy Hook, turning it into a year-round residence. It became their retirement home. She and Neil enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and spent several winters in Palm Springs, often making stops in Las Vegas en route. Following Neil's death in 2008, Mary sold the cabin and moved to Winnipeg. Her home was always open to friends and family who wanted to drop by for a visit. Mary was a passionate sports fan; cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and those who represented Manitoba in national curling championships. Mary is survived by her daughter Kathryn Gower (Neil); her son Michael; grandsons Kraig and Kassidy Wrightson; by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Glen Eden Funeral Chapel, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB, with Mary's son-in-law, Rev. Neil Strohschein officiating. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Winnipeg Humane Society. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Kathryn (Neil) Kraig, Kassidy and Michael, our sadness is with you. We lost a wonderful fun loving individual the day your mom left this world. We have to remember from the time we are born til the time we are called home, we are living the DASH. Aunty Mary lived a very good dash, she had a lot of fun, saw places out side of Canada, and lived her dash to the fullest! We are so sorry we can not be there for you on Saturday, we will be there in spirit, and will get together at a later date. Love you all Steve, Darlene and Aunty Eileen. - Posted by: Darlene & Stephen McGuire/ Eileen Holmes (Niece/ sister-in law) on: Jan 24, 2013
