MARGARET FUNK (nee UNRAU) It is with deepest sorrow, on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, MB, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother Margaretha Funk (nee Unrau) age 91, born April 22, 1921. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Bernard Funk; father John Unrau; mothers Helena and Karoline Unrau; and her brothers Jake, John and Paul Unrau. She leaves to mourn her brothers, Albert, Diedrich (Lorna), Henry (Helen), Nick (Marge); her sisters, Mary, Helen, Agnes and Karoline; her children Stan (Anne), Lorne (Margaret), Ralph (Illona), Ken, Florence (Dave), Lydia (Ray) and Victor (Nicole); 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Margaret graduated from Gretna Bible School, married Ben Funk July 27, 1950 and lived in the Clarkleigh area for over 25 years while raising her family and being an active member of the churches in her community. Margaret moved, with her husband, to live in Steinbach during the summer of 1974, where she became a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, where she proudly served God for many years. During the last eight years it became difficult for Margaret to attend her church and her prayer meetings, but continued to serve her Savior through whatever means she was able. Margaret was a loving and kind person. She felt very deeply for all those she knew and had a prayer for everyone. She loved being with her family and especially enjoyed the big gatherings. Margaret will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Her spirit will live on forever. We wish to thank the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home and everyone for their prayers and support throughout. Viewing on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 417 Hanover Street, Steinbach with viewing prior to the service. Interment in the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach.

  • Sorry to hear about Mrs.Funk, she was a great neighbour to all at Clarkleigh. - Posted by: Linda Petroni (Janzen) (neighbour) on: Jan 30, 2013

  • Some humor here. When I saw the comment of Verna Penner Froese, I immediately had the memory come back to me about Mrs Funk telling us that one of the Sunday school teachers she had staying at her house was Freaked out by the fact that Manure was used as fertilizer. Now they had to eat those veggies...LOL Mrs Funk ASSURED her that the veggies were well washed. Perfectly safe to eat. Mrs Funks meals were yummy. I remember them well. - Posted by: Edna French (nee Derksen) () on: Jan 26, 2013

  • Mr and Mrs Funk were fantastic neighbours. Always there to help. We as the Derksen family always knew we could count on them. I could go on and on about how many times they were of help to Mom who was alone for the most part. Dad worked in Wpg. We only saw him on weekends. Their loving kindness also showed in how they raised their children. We, the Derksen kids, all have nothing but love and wonderful thoughts of the Funks. God Bless You All. - Posted by: Edna and Bryan French (Neighbour of the Funks in Clarlkeigh Manitoba) on: Jan 26, 2013

  • We were brought to the Funk family because our Dad was somewhere else. Her kitchen and the open door was to be the place wn Here so many milestones of my life were eked out and the kids were like my brothers and sisters. I couldn't have married any of the guys because we were already in love like bothers and sisters. Margaret in her wisdom knew this and so did Ben. - Posted by: Verna Derksen Brown (neihbour) on: Jan 26, 2013

  • Have often wondered about Mrs Funk......about 57 years ago my friend and I were taken to Clarkleigh by Mr Joe Wiebe to teach VBS. We were billeted at the Funk home. It will be an experience we will never forget.....Mrs Funk was a great cook, even with limited means and so friendly. The new potatoes with green onions and cream gravy were so good after walking the two miles to and from the church. Her Christian witness was so strong even though life must have been hard for her with little children and all the farm work without having us there! - Posted by: Verna Penner Froese () on: Jan 24, 2013

  • It was wonderful being around Aunt Margaret. I remember many summer holidays spent at their farm. It must have been an amazing amount of extra work for her but she always made me feel welcome. She cared and it showed. - Posted by: Hannah Giesbrecht (niece) on: Jan 24, 2013

  • Floral print dresses, flour dusted aprons, big beautiful twinkling, mischievous, smiling eyes, the biggest smiles ever, "Helloo, welcome here!", hugs that made you feel like you'd never been safer and unending love. I can close my eyes and I'm back there in a heartbeat. Be at rest Tante Margaret. I loved you so. You were such a blessing to me. Thinking of all of you kids and grandkids. She was such a treasure!! - Posted by: Kim (Unrau) Peters (niece) on: Jan 24, 2013
