ETHEL MARY SHIELDS January 11, 1919 - January 22, 2013 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mom and Grandma, Ethel Shields, with her daughter by her side, at age 94, on January 22, 2013. Ethel was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jim Shields, parents, Allen and Annie Howarth, and brother John Howarth. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Wayne Shields, daughter, Val Dunsmore, granddaughter, Erin (Bryan Wills), and Bryan's parents, Colleen and Don Wills, as well as several special nieces and nephews. Ethel was born in Kingsley District, MB. She grew up on the family farm and attended the one room school in Kingsley. After Jim retired, they spent many happy years travelling in their RVs. Family was most important to Ethel, and she was an excellent homemaker. She was a great cook, baker and knitter. She loved horses, and dogs, was a loyal Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan and would never say no to ice cream. Mom had a mild mannered disposition and people who met her described her as a sweet lady. The family extends special thanks to the wonderful staff at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for the loving care they provided to Ethel over the last two years. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or Winnipeg Humane Society. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
