JOHN GEORGE (JACK) FRASER August 5, 1922 - January 20, 2013 After a short illness, we said goodbye to Dad. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg where he started his career with CPR in 1940 with a break to serve in the airforce during the Second World War. After returning, he married his sweetheart of 60 years, Laura Recksiedler, who predeceased him in 2009. He and Laura started their family, Robert, (Bonnie), Dawn, (Joe Moskal), Doug (Jan) and Sharon (Gil Krehling). They moved from Winnipeg to Keewatin in 1966 where they made their home by the water's edge on the Winnipeg River. Dad was fortunate to live a complete life filled with family, friends, community service, and opportunities to see much of this world. An avid reader, he updated himself on various subjects that interested him and allowed him to broaden his knowledge and thinking. He enjoyed debating and many nights were spent on the porch or by the fire in lively discussions with a good scotch, family and friends. He put his political beliefs into action serving as the President of the Kenora NDP Riding Association for many years, as well as fundraising and hitting the campaign trail. He also served as the President of the Lakewood Credit Union Board, providing guidance and leadership for over 20 years. After retiring, he and Laura began to travel and visited many wonderful places, their favourite being Barbados. They loved to dance and party with Barbados providing the perfect venue! Jack started golfing later in life which lead him to play many courses including St. Andrews in Scotland. Dad encouraged us not to just think of ourselves, but to consider those around us and future generations which included his grandchildren Carlee, Merrill, Jonathan, Hanna and Leah and great-grandchild Delaney. We will always remember the lessons he taught us, the principle one being "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". He said, "You'll never go wrong if you follow that rule". We love you Dad and we will miss your quick wit and humour. We would like to thank all the staff at Pinecrest and special thanks to Brian Williams, who helped and assisted Dad for the last three years. Brian, you have a good soul and the family appreciated your kindness to our Dad. Dad will be cremated with a celebration to follow this summer. Time, date and place will be announced.
