Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEANNE MCVARISH (nee GIGUERE) Peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the age of 93, Jeanne passed away at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. She leaves to mourn her daughters Elaine (Ted), and Gail, along with six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Hugh, in 2006, her parents Raoul and Anna Giguere, and her brothers George, Rene, Ed, Marcel, Fred, Paul, and Chuck. Jeanne was born in St. Norbert on December 11, 1919, attending St. Norbert Convent. She later moved to Winnipeg with her parents attending Lord Roberts School, where she learned English. She became equally fluent in both languages, and was ever proud of winning a City wide prize in French. She completed her career up to retirement from M.P.I.C. in 1984. Jeanne loved retirement with gardening, reading, chatting on the phone and sometimes spending time with her brother George (Rollande) at their cabin in Lake of the Woods. Her later years were spent living with her family, of which she was an integral part. She had many amusing stories of the Early Days , growing up with seven brothers, and bragged about winning at arm wrestling with them. Stories of Model A Fords, streetcars, and shopping at Eatons and Dingwalls always carried with them a smile on her face. Cremation has taken place, according to her wishes. Interment will follow in the Spring at Green Acres Funeral Home with a private family ceremony. A special thank you to the knowledgeable and very compassionate staff at Concordia Hospital, who comforted Mom in her last hours. To Mom: You worked tirelessly all your life supporting Dad in his endeavours and raising your children. In your retirement you remained a constant and forceful strength to all of us. For this and more we thank you, we love you, and we will miss you forever. Donations in Jeanne's memory may be made to a charity of choice. Jeanne was a wonderful elegant lady who brought up her daughters to become the same. Hugh was also a very special friend that I knew ever since high school and whos artistry that I cherish dearly. She stood by her husband as he painted, carved, gave carving lessons and showings of his paintings. God bless you Jeanne and family. You sure deserve your place in heaven and we know that you are with hubby once again.RAY.D. - Posted by: Ray Dirckx. Edmonton AB.
