AGNES OSTAPOVICH (WOODHALL) 1923 - 2013 On Thursday, January 17, 2013, Agnes joined her beloved husband Joseph and cherished son David. Her daughter and grandson Joyce and Braden Hill remain behind to proudly carry on her legacy. Agnes would have celebrated her 90th birthday on May 25, 2013. Agnes was the eldest of eight children born to Joseph Alexander and Annie Woodhall. She grew up in Winnipeg until the age of 13. At that time, the family moved to Woodlands, Manitoba. It was there that she met her future husband who lived on the neighboring farm. They farmed in the Teulon area before moving to Winnipeg. In her earlier years, Agnes worked at Inquiry at the Winnipeg General Hospital. This career later prepared her for her career with the City of Winnipeg. She began working there as their switchboard operator in 1969, and after working her way up, she retired from the City Clerks Department in 1989, after 20 years of service with the City of Winnipeg. She made many life-long friends there. Agnes was a lifelong learner. She received her GED certificate and began to take courses at University of Winnipeg. She especially enjoyed her anthropology and computer courses. She also belonged to the senior's group, Creative Retirement where she enjoyed taking writing courses. Agnes also enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii and Iceland. Agnes's greatest love was reading. There was rarely a time that you didn't see her with a book in her hand during her free time. Agnes's grandson was truly the light of her life. From the day he was born, his grandma was always there to lend a helping hand. They loved spending time together playing all sorts of games. She was one of his biggest supporters in all of his undertakings. Our mom was also a great support to her children. She was never one to force her opinions and ideas on us but always was there for moral support and great advice when asked. We are so grateful to St. Joseph's Residence for the exceptional care that Agnes received for the past two years. We also appreciate the family support during that time and especially during the last few days that she was with us. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place on or the day after the Canada Day long weekend for friends and family. It will be on a different day from the Cousin Reunion that weekend. Date, time and place will be published in the Winnipeg Free Press closer to the time of the celebration. We will truly miss you Mom and Grandma! 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember when I was very young going over to visit Grandma Woodhall, Aunt Agnes, Uncle Joe, cousin David and cousin Joyce on a Sunday afternoon. The girls would go upstairs to see what Joyce and David were doing. I remember that Aunt Agnes was a quiet, majestic lady and had a great smile. She had a great sense of humour as I remember she liked to tease my Dad, her brother Wilf. Time passes on so quickly and we are left behind to remember these great important people who touch our lives. One day we will all meet again...Arlene! - Posted by: Arlene Lavallee (Niece) on: Jan 27, 2013
