HELEN KOWALSKI (nee SHOLDRA) February 8, 1920 - January 25, 2013 92 Years Young Peacefully, on Friday, January 25, with her family by her side, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Helen passed away. Predeceased by her husband Steve (Stefan) Kowalski, her parents Micheal and Anastasia Sholdra and all eight of her siblings: three brothers Alec, Peter and Jimmy Sholdra and five sisters Anne Hollyer, Carrie Bachinski, Mary Krawchuk, Pauline Grabish and Stella Wesley. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son Richard (Kristine), and three daughters: Corliss Westbrook (Brian), Linda Chomitzky (Wally) and Lucy Prevost. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lee (Cindy), Ryley and Cade; Corey (Korrie), Keenan and Kennedy; Kelly (Christine); William (Brandi), Gavin and Abbey; Walter (Shasta), Zachery and Nathan; Jody (Paul), Brody and Reis; Sheri (Chris), Kaleigh; Ryan (Lindsay), Julissa and Ryan; Ashleigh (Riley), Spencer; and Myles. Mom worked tirelessly raising her children on the homestead and when they grew up she continued working for over 40 years at the Falcon and Lake Steak restaurants in Gimli. She had a deep passion for sports especially hockey and baseball. She loved to watch her son, grandsons and great-grandchildren play and was an avid fan, at many of the rinks in the Interlake but most often she could be found in her favourite chair at the Gimli arena. She also loved to be at the beach in Gimli during the summer soaking up the sun in her lawn chair, when she wasn't driving around the countryside taking pictures. You are an inspiration to us Mom. Your strength, independence and feistiness made you memorable to all who met you. We will miss you... Many thanks to staff in both the Gimli Hospital and Gimli Betel.
