DORIS NELLIE HAWKINS (SEWELL)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS NELLIE HAWKINS (nee SEWELL) With great sorrow, we announce that on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, Nellie passed away at Grace Hospital. Nellie is survived by her sister Lil of England, and was predeceased by her husband Fred, and sons Barry and Brian. Mom leaves to cherish her memory, daughter-in-law Carol, Jane and grandchildren Michael (Rhiannon), Lisa (Dennis), Travis and Cary (Shauna), Jocelyn (Andrew), Laura (Zak) and precious great-grandchildren Easton, Casin, Graham and Harrison, as well as numerous extended family and friends. Mom will be greatly missed for her smile, kind ways, humour, love of chocolate and of course the English accent, which she still had. Nellie was born in Weybridge Surrey, England. Mom came to Canada on the ship the New Amsterdam with her two month old son Barry and landed in Halifax on Christmas Day, 1944. Mom and family then went by train to Montreal, being stationed in Lachine, Quebec, where Brian was born, St. Foy, Shilo and settled in Winnipeg. Mom lived at Oakview Place from July 2012 to January 2013. We wish to thank all the nurses, caregivers and support staff for the care they gave Nellie and their support of the family. A special thank you and goodbye to Ann. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for all their support and caring, to both Mom and ourselves, to Jun, Laura, Shannon, Dr. Matthews and all the staff of 3 North at Grace Hospital. In accordance with Nellie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A service and celebration of Nellie's life will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens (4000 Portage Avenue) on Monday, February 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
