Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHELLE MAY DESROSIERS April 25, 1953 - January 30, 2013 It is with broken hearts that we announce that Richelle Desrosiers has left this life on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. She leaves to mourn her husband Brent C. Babisky, daughter Marley (Justin), grandsons Jacob and Colton, son Caleb (Lena), mother-in-law Carol, brother-in-law Garth, sisters-in-law Dawn, Paula, and Robyne, brother Paul, as well as many nieces and nephews. A special thank you her to childhood friend Anita (Colin). Thank you for your life long friendship and of course, field trips. Thank you to Sandra Greenaway, a friend of more than 40 years, her spirit sister. Over the last few years of Richelle's illness we would to thank the special people who took the time to call, write, visit, and plan outings. Your support was invaluable. Richelle was unique. She was intelligent, insightful, and articulate, a voracious reader with an incredible memory. Richelle could light up a room with her presence and could make anyone smile and laugh as she had great humour. Richelle was a teacher for 30 years. She spent 23 years teaching at St. John's High School. She loved to teach; she was passionate about her students. This passion led her to the Winnipeg Teachers Association were she served on the executive committee for many years. We were very proud to see her receive the WTA Distinguished Service Award in 2010, for outstanding contributions to the association. Richelle volunteered her time with many associations including the Winnipeg Folk Festival where she was a volunteer coordinator, board member, fundraiser and performer for the past 39 years. To our mommy, we love you, we will miss you, and we will carry you in our hearts every day until the end of time! You were the best we ever could have asked for and you always put your children above all else, for that we will forever be grateful! We love you, Mommy! There will be a private celebration of life to honour Richelle, please politely contact the family for details. The family respectfully requests that donations be made in Richelle's name to the Winnipeg Folk Festival, 203-211 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 3P2. ONE SMALL STAR I'm learning how to live without you Though I never thought I could And even how to smile again And I never thought I would And to cherish the heart's memories That can bring you back to life Though some caress me gently And some cut me like a knife. Can your soul be out there somewhere Beyond the infinity of time I guess you've found some answers now I'll have to wait for mine Till my light joins with yours someday To shine through time and space And one day fall, in a distant age Upon some stranger's face. Chorus But your light still shines It's one small star to guide me And to help me hold back the dark Your light's still shining in my heart When I need to feel you near me I stand in this quiet place With the silver light of countless stars Falling on my face Though they all shine so brightly Somehow it comforts me to know That some who burn the brightest died An eternity ago. I missed the Folk Festival in 2013 and because I'm so far out of the loop; I have only just heard about Richelle's passing. Every year I would sit and chat with Richelle back stage at the festival and it was always a highlight for me. Her infectious laugh and her great humour never failed to put put a shine on my day. Dear Brent and family.. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I first met Richelle when I was her replacement teacher at Sir John Franklin Elementary when she was on mat leave!! From those beginnings, to laughing together last summer in the lounge chairs at Folk Fest, Richelle's humour and zest for life were contagious. She shone her incredible light and wit on all of us; friends, colleagues, students. She will be missed, and remembered with smiles and laughter. Rest peacefully my friend. - Posted by: Donna Mills (friend/colleague) on: Feb 08, 2013

I encountered Richelle's laugh before I saw her. It was a great start, as to see her was to hear at least some laughs. The lessons about teaching and living as a parent I will not forget. My heartfelt sympathies to the family, to the friends and the students she championed. - Posted by: Kevin Lang (student/colleague) on: Feb 02, 2013

Sunrise. That was the smile that greeted myself and Eric Bogle when we first arrived in Winnipeg in 1982. That was Richelle. And the sun shone on our lives across the world and when we visited through friendship, positivity, humour, wit and music. Can't yet believe the sun has set. - Posted by: John Munro, Darwin, Australia (Friend) on: Feb 02, 2013
