FRANK WIENS Peacefully, on February 2, 2013, our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed on to his heavenly home. He is survived by three sons, Harry and Susan, Bob and Ruth, Peter and Kathy, son-in-law David Tooth and his wife Lucille; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Tina (Riediger) in 2007 and his daughter, Evelyn Tooth in 2005. Dad was born on July 29, 1914 in the Ukraine and enjoyed the 98 years of life the Lord granted him. Farming was not only his occupation, but also his passion, and he never really retired, driving a combine and other equipment on the family farm until the age of 95. He parked his car for the winter this November, fully intending to drive again in spring. During the Russian Revolution, he and his family were recipients of food aid from the newly formed Mennonite Central Committee and he was an enthusiastic and generous supporter of MCC, Canadian Foodgrains Bank and other organizations and people in need. He was a faithful and active member of the Glenlea Mennonite Church since its formation in 1925. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Brian Sharkey and the nurses and staff of Unit 2 at Victoria General Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care provided for our father. The funeral service will be held at Glenlea Mennonite Church on Wednesday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at the church cemetery. Viewing will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My daughter, Stacey & I, have volunteered in the dining room at Lindenwood Terrace for the past 2 1/2 years. We enjoyed getting to know Frank. We chatted often and enjoyed listening to his farming stories. Several times he invited us up to his suite to look at pictures and share stories. He was a highlight at the Terrace and we will miss seeing him there. - Posted by: Pam & Stacey Friesen (Volunteer workers at Lindenwood Terrace) on: Feb 06, 2013

  • Frank was our neighbour on Thatcher Drive in Winnipeg for many years, a kind and generous man, always ready for a laugh or joke. He often made the comment that he didn't understand how a deep sea sailor like me had a lawn greener than his, a farmer. We missed him and Tina when they moved away. God bless you Frank, and may He keep your soul in His loving care. - Posted by: William and Laura Philip (Neighbour) on: Feb 05, 2013

  • Our sincere condolences to you as a family. Your father and grandfather became a friend whom I learned to love and appreciate. Arthur & Kathleen Driedger - Posted by: Arthur & Kathleen Driedger (former neighbors on Thatcher Dr.) on: Feb 05, 2013
