STELLA PIDSKALNY (nee TUZYK) Peacefully, with her nieces at her side, on Monday, February 4, 2013, Stella Pidskalny passed away at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Stella was born in Winnipeg on December 17, 1915. Stella completed her education at Gilbert Plains, MB. During the war years, Stella worked in a Small Arms Factory in Toronto. Stella returned home to the farm in the Halicz district in 1943. During this time, she met her husband, Michael Pidskalny. Later that year, Stella went to Thunder Bay where she was employed in a Shell Plant inspecting 50 pound shells for war supplies. In 1945, Stella and Michael were married in Ethelbert and subsequently moved to Winnipeg. Stella was employed at the Jacob and Crawley Clothing Factory. They joined St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Parish in 1962 where Stella was active in the Ladies League. Stella was a very talented homemaker, great at cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Stella loved fishing, working in her yard, and gardening (especially tending to her roses). Stella enjoyed their many RV travels in Canada and USA. Friends, family and neighbors were always warmly welcomed into her home. She was always available whenever advice or care was needed. Stella's friends were friends for life. She leaves a part of herself in every life she touched. She will be sadly missed by us all. Stella was predeceased by her husband, Michael (2005); parents Alexander and Anna Tuzyk; siblings Mary (Nick) Kozy, Joseph (Mary), Carrie Tuzyk, Michael (Nellie), Jim, and in infancy, Nicholas; brothers-in-law Bob McPhee and Nick Kereliuk. Stella is survived by sister Ollie McPhee of Ontario; sisters-in-law Mary Tuzyk of Ontario and Anne Kereliuk of Dauphin, MB; nieces and nephews: Stella, Carol, Liz, Joe, Allan, Sandra, Maryanne, Vivian and their families. Stella is also survived by the families of nephew/nieces who predeceased her: Matt, Victoria and Eleanor. The family extends special thanks to Stella's other family - the caring staff and volunteers at Golden West Centennial Lodge. The funeral service, officiated by Fr. W. Klymchuk, will be celebrated on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St. at 10:00 a.m. (Viewing at 9:00 a.m.). Interment, officiated by Fr. Emil Kardasinec, will take place later in the day in Ethelbert, MB. Donations in memory of Stella may be made to a charity of your choice.
