RENE LAVIGNE With great sadness on February 5, 2013 at the Gimli Hospital, at the young age of 83, we announce the passing of our much loved dad, papa, big papa. Dad was not a man of many words but his presence was a comfort that is now gone. He was more than a jack of all trades; he put MacGyver to shame. He was the go-to guy when you had a problem with your car, plumbing, electrical, lawnmower, welding, etc. He had a big heart and really big, handy hands. He loved us most of all but yelled at us when we needed it too. You couldn't go into his garage without him following you in asking, "What are you looking for?" That was dad's domain, where you could always find him busy tinkering or fixing, and listening to the Carter Family on an old phonograph. Every day the sun will rise, the paper will come, Young and the Restless will still come on, but your rocking chair has stopped rocking, your razor sits idle and your slippers are empty. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edna, his seven children, Cheryl, Bryan, Susan, Dwayne, Dale, Tanis (Ken), Crystal, eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons; his sisters, Irene, Rose, Rita, and brother Roland. We would like to thank the awesome staff and Doctors Wong and Gera at the Gimli Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Pastor Les Skonnord, your private service with us at the end was awesome and a huge comfort. At Rene's request there will be no service. The family will have a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made with the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Gimli Lutheran Church. Dad.....the answer to your always asked question. YES! We are coming out this weekend!
