BETTY PEACOCK (nee SMITH) 1922 - 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Mrs. Betty Peacock on the morning of February 11, 2013. Betty was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan as the only daughter of Herbert and Margaret Smith. She liked to refer to the fact she was responsible for disrupting the local opera performance since the doctor was the lead singer. The family moved to Kindersley, Wilkie and then Saskatoon during which time Betty spent a year in the convent at Rosetown. Betty attended Nutana Collegiate, City Park Collegiate and Technical School. Betty was very active in sports. Betty married the love of her life, Ross Peacock on July 27, 1942 in Saskatoon and resided in Medicine Hat, Alberta while Ross served in the RCAF at the chemical warfare experimental station in Suffield, Alberta. Following the war, they returned to Saskatoon and during Ross's career with the CNR they moved numerous times before finally settling in Winnipeg. While in Regina, Betty was very active with the IODE. In Winnipeg, she was very active in racquet sports and golf at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. Mom was a great cook and the family always enjoyed her Sunday dinners where she served her famous roast beef among other delicacies. She always made special holidays memorable ones, and set a table that looked like one you would see in the finest restaurants. She was a beautiful knitter and Mom made many little intricate things for her grandchildren. She was a very generous person and helped family out whenever she could, whether it was babysitting, etc. or in later years treating us for lunches and dinners out. Mom seemed to have a knack at excelling at anything she put her mind to. One such thing was painting and art work. As such we have many of her paintings to cherish and pass on to future generations. Betty was predeceased by her husband Ross after over 60 years of marriage; her brothers Charles and Jack and her sister-in-law Dori. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son Bruce Peacock (Glenda), and daughters Donna Cameron and Diana Peacock, her five grandchildren, Elliot Cameron (Rachelle), Shannon Cameron, Kyla Jensen (Bill), Adam Cameron and Heather Peacock-Day (Curtis), along with her nine great-grandchildren, Dante, Alaina, Cole, Brady, Braedon, Hayden, Marissa, Rylee and Owen. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Betty's wishes and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
