MILDRED CECELIA (KLAPP) KING Mildred passed away at her residence in the Middlechurch Home on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 6:30 a.m. of double-pneumonia at the age of 91 years. Mildred (Millie) was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Lance, in April 2001; her sisters; Norah (Doug) Bell of Straford, ON, Mena (Roy) Kerr of Winnipeg, Margaret (Bill) Butterfield of McCreary, MB. and Jessie (Charlie) Fletcher of Winnipeg; her brothers; Jack Klapp of McCreary, MB., Allen Klapp of Winnipeg, Lorne Klapp of Winnipeg, and George Klapp of Brandon, MB. Millie leaves to mourn; her son Rick, granddaughters Karly and Ricki; her sister; Constance (Eric) Pettitt of Neepawa, MB.; sister-in-laws; Ellie (Jack) Klapp of McCreary, MB, Bobbi (John) Lamb of Shathroy, ON; brother-in-law; Gene (Christine) King of Etobicoke, ON, Micheal (Elaine) Schaub of Toronto, ON, John Lamb of Shathroy, ON, and many assorted nephews and nieces. Millie was born on August 24, 1921, in McCreary, MB, to Constance Helen (Duncan) of Edinburgh, Scotland and Frederick John Klapp of Listowel, ON. Growing up on the family farm with her nine other siblings. Once Millie left school, she took a job at the Neepawa Hospital where she met her future husband Lance, who worked at Murray's garage. After a short courtship the two eloped, as Lance had enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Core (R.C.A.M.C) for active duty in 1942. On returning from the war, the couple set out to Toronto, Lance working for Canada Glaze (paper products) and Millie at Blue Ribbon Tea. Eventually they moved to Coboconk, ON, opening a business called King's Cabins which they ran for a number of years, before moving to Winnipeg. There, Lance worked til retirement, as a transit driver, as Millie first worked as a cook at the Medical Arts Building for 14 years, then at Children's Aid for an additional eight years, all while being a mother and home-maker to their son Rick in Morse Place. Millie taught Sunday School at Grey St. United, sang in the church choir at both Grey St. and later at John Black United also. After retirement, Millie and Lance moved to 220 Oakland Ave., spent quality time with family, travelled to Florida and Arizona with their friends. Millie held a strong belief in her faith, as well as in family, loving her granddaughters Karly and Ricki very much. We wish to thank the staff on B-2 of the Middlechurch Home. You're the best there is. Donations can be made in Millie's memory to: The Canadian Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. An afternoon to remember Millie will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My mother, Norah, adored her older sister Millie. My father, Doug, always remembered the kindness of Millie and Lorne to him and Norah during their early days in Ontario. Millie and Lorne, along with Rickie, visited almost every summer during the 1960s, driving East from Winnipeg to Stratford, Ontario. Millie stayed with our family while Norah was dying in 1988, providing much needed emotional support. Always sensible, always strong in faith, always kind, our family loved Millie. • Millie was always a joy to be around and such a loving soul. We spent many times visting and enjoyed every minute I spent with her. She was always so grateful for everything anyone did for her. Just believe now that you have a special angel watching over you as she was an angel on earth and now she is in heaven. No more suffering for her. Amen. My deepest sympathies. I am living in New Brunswick now but will always tresure the times spent with Millie. My email address is debaburns@yahoo.com - Posted by: Debbie Burns (Worked homecare for Millie) on: Feb 18, 2013

  • Dear Rick...you likely won't remember Jackie and I, but we attended Morse Place United and I dare say I taught you Sunday School when you were about 6. Your Mom and Dad were wonderful folks and we're so sorry to hear that your Mom has passed away. She had a good long life and I'm sure she was well cared for. Our best to you and yours, Rick. Our condolences to you. Love, Jackie and Ken Little - Posted by: Jackie and Ken LIttle (Friends) on: Feb 18, 2013
