OTTO ERNEST BOGGS August 8, 1924 - February 16, 2013 We are saddened to say Otto passed away peacefully on February 16, 2013, at the age of 88, in the comfort of his home. Born in Germany on August 8, 1924, he came to Canada with his family at the age of two months, settling in Morris, MB. Otto had many stories to tell and loved to reminisce about: cutting ice on the Red River, being stationed in Holland during the war, escorting prisoners of war into the Russian zone from Berlin, working in the gold mines in British Columbia and Ontario, and building highways in Northern Manitoba. He valued hard work and made his way up from being a custodian at St. John's Ravenscourt to being the Superintendent of Buildings and Maintenance at the former Assiniboine South School Division. He loved tools, was an advocate for education and a jack of all trades. A self-taught electrician, carpenter, plumber, and mechanic, his advice was sought often for repairs and renovations. In his retirement years he passed many hours watching home videos of his grandchildren, and took up golf and the computer. He was predeceased by his wife Elfrieda, his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by daughters Louise Conci (John), Naomi Guse (Ron), and grandchildren Sarah Eisbrenner (Nathan), Leigha Conci, Adam Conci (Vy), Karley Guse (Sean) and Alexa Guse, his sister Alvina Hartwig, and numerous nieces and nephews. As per his request there will be no funeral. There will be a viewing on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg prior to a graveside committal service at 1:30 p.m. at the Morris Cemetery, Morris, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Otto's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Bye Dad and Grandpa, We'll see you in the funny papers!

"Uncle Otto" was such a long-time "good friend" to my Dad (Paul Regitnig), going back to days growing up in Morris, as his brother-in-law when he married Frieda and in his retirement years. Many happy memories and stories included Uncle Otto. He will be greatly missed. When our families visited I could never leave the room without Uncle Otto saying something to coax me to smile. He was kind, thankful and helpful. I remember him helping my Dad move my things when I left home. Wishing you God's love and comfort to fill up what you've lost. We grieve but not with out a great hope; to be with the Lord who loves us, and for your Dad joy also to be with your Mom. - Posted by: Pat Mah (Niece) on: Feb 22, 2013

Thinking of you, Naomi, Louise and families. I first met Mr. Boggs when I was in high school hanging out with Naomi and a few other friends in his basement. He welcomed us with smiles and few words. I remember longer conversations usually happened when we were outside ...in his back yard or Naomi's... and usually about building or fixing something or how proud he was of his grandchildren. He will be missed. - Posted by: Marilyn Challis Cozzuol (family friend) on: Feb 21, 2013

Otto was a great father-in-law. He taught me so much from his knowledge and experience as a self-taught handyman. He was always there when you needed a helping hand and, in later years when his hands were not as strong and agile, with his mentorship and direction. He was a “good guy”, a valued parent and a great grandparent, who will be missed but will live on in every handyman project done by this son-in-law. - Posted by: Ron Guse (son-in-law) on: Feb 21, 2013

I am a former teacher who taught in the Assiniboine South School Division. I always enjoyed meeting Otto, who was a gentle, organized, and well respected person. His family deserves to be very proud about Otto's accomplishments. May your memories be treasured. - Posted by: Roland Otto (friend) on: Feb 21, 2013
