Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ELAINE WALLACE (nee FLEMING) Peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, with her family by her side, Elaine passed to heaven at West Park Manor at the age of 88 years after a long and happy life. Elaine was loved and honoured and will be greatly missed by her husband, children and grandchildren. Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jack; children Pat Howard (Wayne), Judy Vivian (Bill), Scott (Donna) and Dawna (Dave Brown); and beloved grandchildren Michael and Alissa Vivian, TJ and Jaden Wallace, and Sarah and Jason Brown. She is also survived by her sister Jackie Fleming of Calgary, Alberta; and seven nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her sisters Anna Hamilton (Charlie) and Doreene Wahl (Herb). Elaine was born in 1924 to Mary Lena and John Fleming in Minnedosa, Manitoba, where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by a loving family. She experienced great joy with her parents, and particularly her sisters. She was an avid athlete, enjoying many sports, and was an accomplished sprinter in high school, winning a Provincial championship for the 60 meter dash. She enjoyed singing for the church and for weddings of family and friends. After high school Elaine graduated from Brandon Business College. Elaine married John (Jack) William Wallace on May 24, 1946 and embarked on a wonderful journey. Elaine and Jack began their lives together in Brandon. Following Jack's career, they moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, for three years and then eventually settled in Winnipeg where they would spend the rest of their lives. In 1967 Elaine and Jack temporarily moved their family to Georgetown, Guyana, to undertake a CEDA project where they broadened their and their children's minds to encompass a more global perspective. Elaine and Jack developed lifelong friends through this experience and in every place they called home. The heart of Elaine's life was her family. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Always very social, she frequently gathered her family for dinners and special events. She enjoyed spending summers with her family at the cottage she and Jack developed at Falcon Lake, Manitoba. She adored her grandchildren and was a very fun and loving Grandma. Elaine was a vibrant woman involved in many organizations including United Church Women, International Toastmistress, bridge clubs, and bowling, curling and golf leagues. She also loved to travel; Elaine and Jack had the great blessing of a life of discovery and adventure across the globe. The family greatly appreciates the loving care given to Mom by the incredible staff of 2 South, West Park Manor. You are angels who feel like family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elaine's memory may be made to West Park Manor Personal Care Home or the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Elaine's Life will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. Cremation has taken place. We were saddened to hear of Elaine's passing. Elaine and Mom had been friends for many years and Mom always spoke of the visits at Falcon Lake each summer. I will always remember Elaine for her kindness, graciousness, sense of humour and her wonderful laugh. During the many years that we were cottage neighbours she always had a welcoming smile and was a wonderful host to many great dinners. I am so sad to have just learned of Mrs. Wallace's passing. I have so many good memories of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and stories of time my grandmother spent at their cottage in the summer.
