THOMAS SILVESTER With the deepest sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Thomas Silvester, at Maples Personal Care Home. The Lord took him home on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, and he no longer suffers the pains of his earthly body. He is at peace now. Tom has gone to be with his wife Mildred, son Sidney, parents Henry and Ellen, sister Mary Clark, as well as other dear family. Left to mourn and cherish his life are his daughter Donna Harrison; sons Greg (Jan) and Hal (Shirley); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Harry and James; sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Dad was born March 29, 1928 in Winnipeg and spent his whole life in Winnipeg. His career was a journeyman automotive mechanic working for various service stations, including his own. He could diagnosis a car's problem by hearing it run. He married the love of his life, Mildred, on December 31, 1948 and together had four children. He was always there with love and support no matter what we needed. Dad was very active in the community. He was a member of Scouts Canada and the BP Guild, IOF, Winnipeg Wandering Wheels RV Club and the Winnipeg Legion of Frontiersmen. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • A great loss to his family, friends and Scouting friends. Tom was out at Section meetings even though he was hampered by pain and limited movement. Limited movement and pain did not hamper his mind though. He loved to work with the kids and had Scouting stories to amuse and amaze them and the Leaders as well. He is now "Gone Home", and his like will never be seen again. Transcona Scouting thinks of him, and will surely miss him. Our sympathies goe out to his large and loving family. - Posted by: Deborah Thiessen-Derksen (Scouting associate) on: Feb 23, 2013
