TANNIS PANASCHUK
Date of Passing: Feb 18, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTANNIS PANASCHUK It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Tannis Panaschuk on February 18, 2013, beloved daughter of John and Eleanor and sister of the late Timmy (1974). Tannis attended school in Selkirk and Lockport where she graduated in 1984 from Lord Selkirk High School. She worked at different jobs over the years from store clerk, hairdresser,r with her last 20 years in an office employed by TC IMS. Her biggest passion in life was her horses, as she ate, slept and breathed of them. She loved competing in rodeos but when she became too sick to compete she worked at rodeos taking entries and timing events. At rodeos she was known as the hug queen and hugged everyone whether you wanted one or not. She enjoyed trail riding all over the province as well as northern Saskatchewan. She loved dancing and went two-stepping every chance she got. Tannis was a BIG animal lover. It didn't matter what kind of animal it was it was always welcome at her place. Tannis was always willing to give you a hand no matter what the task. She moved many people with the different horse trailers she had owned including the one she presently owned. She had hauled many horses for people as she knew what it was like to want to attend an event but have no way to get your horse there. She always said when she could finally afford to buy a horse trailer she was going to buy one big enough to haul an extra horse. Before the trailer she rode her horse everywhere including rodeos in the Selkirk Park for years or Petersfield or her grandparents place on Highway #8 and 67. She put a lot of miles on horseback when competing at barrel racing, goat tying or steer undecorating. She belonged to several associations such as Heartland Rodeo Association (HRA), Manitoba Ranch Rodeo Association (MRRA) and Manitoba Barrel Racing Association (MBRA) which she qualified for the finals in all of them. Her biggest achievement in rodeo was when she won several rodeos with MRRA including the finals and the year championship. Winning her two buckles in 2007 on Jack when she was still going through treatments the first time around with breast cancer. Her biggest fans were her parents who attended many rodeos. She had a couple more rodeo fans in Saskatchewan as well. She went on many charity rides with her horses, from riding for the Shriners as well as the Disabled and Children's Wish Ride. She even went searching for missing people on horseback on more than one occasion. She always tried to stay positive. Her cup was always half full rather than half empty. She even said Chemo has its benefits as you don't have to worry about bad hair days, blow drying and curling your hair, shaving your legs or underarms. You can be out of the shower in 10 minutes. It cuts way down on the getting ready time . Tannis decided to look for another horse for barrel racing which she found end of January 2012. She brought Breeze home from Saskatchewan in March and thoroughly enjoyed riding her. As per her wishes flowers are gratefully declined but a donation to Heartland Rodeo Association or Selkirk Community Foundation - Palliative Care or Children's Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration Luncheon will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the banquet hall at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #42, 403 Eveline Street in Selkirk, MB. Cremation has taken place with burial following at a later date. Seasons Funeral Chapel - OakBank

My deepest condolences to Eleanor and John on the passing of your daughter Tannis who was loved by so many people. Tannis and I met in 1976 and became instant friends. My fondest memories of then was the chicken noodle soup Elenore would make for us during our lunch break from school, and also of the time we went to my sisters horse rance in portage la prairie where my hourse decided that he didn't want to walk anymore and layed down in the snow with me still on him. We had many good times and I am proud to say that you were a true friend. Tannis you fought a long and hard battle, you were so strong through out it all, your time has come now for you to rest, I will miss you with all my heart. Till we meet again. - Posted by: Brenda ( truthwaite) Kuitz (Long time friend) on: Feb 28, 2013

Tannis and I met when we both worked at Investors Group many years ago. Even though we moved on and our lives took different paths, we stayed in touch over the years with long phone calls and emails. I will remember Tannis as an open, honest and friendly lady who loved to smile and laugh. She always took a genuine interest in others and loved doing nice things for people. I will especially remember how kind she was, despite being sick, when she invited my daughter out to her place to ride her horse (and also gave her a lesson on horse grooming too!) My condolences to her family. I'll miss you. Rest in peace, Tannis. - Posted by: Brenda Antonyshyn (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2013

You always gave of yourself and never asked for anything in return. Your smile, your hugs and your laugh will be greatly missed. I am sorry that we lost touch in the last few years, but the memories I have of our times together will be with me always. You have left us too soon. I will miss you friend. - Posted by: Laurie Popoff (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2013

Tannis, we experienced so much together in life you were always there no matter what whether a hug, words of encouragement or just that kick that was needed. You will never be forgotten you will always be in my heart. You taught me the meaning of a true friend. To Mr. and Mrs. P you had a truly gifted fighter, I know where she got the strength from. A long time ago a cheerful, smiling approximately 10 year old girl entered the 4-H club I was leading and also my life. This young girl would do almost anything to get herself near a horse. Years went by and when my own children were in 4-H they too had the privilege of encountering this very upbeat person as their 4-H leader. She had done everything to get herself close to a horse because she now owned some. We didn't visit as much as we should've Tannis, especially being neighbours and all but the visits we did have were always full of laughter and good horse stories. My wish for you is constant sun and blue skies, fields full of tall grass, and good horses between your knees. - Posted by: Janice Laing () on: Feb 25, 2013

Tannis it was an honor to be babysat by you. You took great care of my sister and I. Through the years, we loved going out to the farm. It was a challenge to get all the peas as you made me look the other way and got more Lol. You cut our hair for years and then came 2010, when you witnessed me getting married. I wish I would have had the time to bring Liam out! To Mr. and Mrs P. I am so sorry that you lost a very wonderful daughter. She will always be my friend! I thank you all for letting us be a part of such a wonderful family. Tannis look after those horses and to us you will always live in our hearts. My deepest Heartfelt condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Panaschuk. Through many deep conversations Tannis became a good friend. In the time I've known her, she was always thinking of her friends before herself, always had a positive attitude even when things were getting her down. Herlove and passion for life, animals and her friends were surpassed by none, she was never afraid to get her hands dirty, or pick up the other end of some heavy object that needed to be moved. Makes me sad that I hadn't stopped by for a visit in a while, but glad I was able to enjoy a Two-step with her last time I saw her. She is sadly missed as Heaven gains another angel, probably already helping out up there. Take care Tannis, you were truly a "Class Act" all the way! - Posted by: Darren (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2013

My Dear Friend Tannis Time and busy lives made us drift apart... I will miss you ... Just the knowledge that you are not here in person makes me so very sad... We never did to go for that cup of coffee and catch up... I will forever remember the endless chats on the phone when we were still young adults .. and the talks of the future, thinking of what we will do, where we would live.... I can hear your voice ... And remember those great big bear hugs.. We lost track of each other over the years, I didn't even know you were ill .. but? that doesn't surprise me... as you always did see the cup of life half full not half empty... Little did I know that on the day of your passing while I was taking my sick child to the hospital .. that you my long time friend was taking the final step to your mysterious eternal journey and I was only a few steps away in the same building.. If only I had known I might of had the chance to say GOOD BYE although I NEVER Like to say GOOD BYE as that is too permanent SO I will say BYE FOR NOW Tannis .. May you look from where you are and look out for all of us .. Til we meet again Love and HUGS Kristen - Posted by: Kristen Holmes Tondevold Marsh (Long time Friends ) on: Feb 23, 2013

My deepest condolenses on the passing of Tannis. I have many fond memories of Tannis and I riding our horses together all over the countryside. At that time she was riding Classy, her beautiful chestnut quarter horse mare. We had so much fun together! I spoke with Tannnis about eight months ago and we swapped stories about how we both still owned and rode horses. Tannis was going through the challenge of having cancer, but was very upbeat still. I know that Tannis is looking down on us from heaven with a horse standing right beside her! May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Jodie Barber Johnson (Childhood friend) on: Feb 23, 2013
