Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE MARY SCHAN (nee HIRT) Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, Elsie passed away on February 5, 2013, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by Otto, her loving husband of 52 years; her parents, Mary and Peter, sisters Annette and Elizabeth; brother Peter; brothers-in-law, Roy Schan, Joe Cielen, Paul Handkamer, and sisters-in-law Veronica Cielen and Grace Hirt. Left to cherish her memory are her children Elizabeth (Wayne), Theresa (Alan), Cathy (Anthony), John (Kristia); grandchildren, Tannis (Jonathan), Greg (Marsha), Lesley (Adam), Ainsley (Mike), Kaitlin, Chelsea, Kellen, Jonathan and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Rowan, Brynn, Sarah, James, Benjamin and Payton; sisters-in-law Josie Neil (Bill) and Mag Handkamer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie dedicated her life to her family. She was very talented and our three generations continue to enjoy her intricate sewing, knitting and smocking creations. She had a competitive spirit, always willing to participate in games from horseshoes to cribbage. She enjoyed trips to Barbados, Hawaii, Florida, Alberta and British Columbia and spent many special times at Lester Beach and the St. John's Sportsmans Club in the Whiteshell. We will remember her tenacious spirit, her wonderful sense of humour, and her love of family. Thank you to the Seven Oaks Emergency staff and the 4th floor Unit 1 staff, especially Monica and Glenda. Our sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of A2 at Middlechurch Home for the special care and comfort they gave our Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or the charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's of Padua Parish, 250 Burrin Ave. Interment at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
