CURTIS ROBERT BLOODWORTH 1956 - 2013 "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Curtis, beloved husband of Diana and father of Shannon, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Concordia Hospital. Severe medical issues had caused long years of suffering but we give thanks to God for His tender mercy in bringing Curtis home to heaven to end his pain and we take great comfort that he now stands healed, restored and whole before his Lord in glory. Curtis was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) in March 2012 and his uncle Harold Klapprat in December 2012. Left to cherish his memory also are his dear mother Angela, brothers Edward and Bill, sister Sheila (Paul Gair), nephews Scott (Tara) and Jason Gair, great-nephew Brycen Gair, great-niece Mackenzie Gair, aunts Millie Klapprat and Ann Landry, as well as many loving cousins. Curt was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood - he was proud of that, graduating from Elmwood high in 1974 and later achieving a B.A (Economics) from the University of Manitoba. He recently retired from a 30 year career with the City of Winnipeg. This man loved all sports and was an avid sports memorabilia collector. If there was a hockey or football pool being organized, you could be sure Curt was in the thick of it. He loved to wager on any sporting outcome and rarely lost - to the annoyance of his fellow betters. Although his health didn't allow him to actively participate in many sports, he did especially love to be able to play mini golf with Shannon when she was young and he kept every scorecard as a memento of the fun times. He will be remembered best for his sly wit and humour. A quality he passed down to his daughter. Curt spoke his mind and had a great memory for facts and a keen interest in politics. He remembered every promise made by any political party so he could bring it to their attention in writing when they failed to keep them. It wasn't uncommon to receive an apologetic phone call or letter at the house from a member of parliament he had kept accountable. It gives us great joy to have seen the softening of Curt's heart and a new gentleness increase in him since his commitment to Christ as savior in recent years. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Darcy Johnson for his excellent care over the years and to the fine doctors and nurses at the Concordia Hospital, in particular to the wonderful, caring ICU nurses during Curt's final hours. Special thanks to the kind Sisters and staff at St. Benedicts Assisted Living whose prayerful loving care, benevolence and concern gave Curt so much comfort in the last years. It blessed us to know he was in such a good place. We are eternally grateful. Heartfelt thanks also to the fine people of Homecare and to Sandy Solonoski, Curt's homecare coordinator, for ministering so faithfully to all his medical needs and encouraging him to do what was best. May God bless you richly for your compassion and gentleness in tending to his wounds. God bless our NKMB church family and friends for faithfully upholding us in prayer over the years and during this difficult time. Your expressions of love, cards, flowers and visits are precious to us and we are so very grateful for each one of you. Lastly, thank you to all our friends and colleagues at the City of Winnipeg for your devoted friendship and understanding of Curt's condition and for the treasured memories you shared with us. A service of thanksgiving to God in celebration of Curt's life and reception will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 2:30 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street, Father Greg Mulligan officiating with tribute being given by Curt's lifelong friend Bill Petrie. A private family interment will be held in spring at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. If friends so desire, donations can be made in Curt's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to St. Benedicts Foundation Inc., 225 Masters Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R4A 2A1. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 75:26 - UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN - Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca
