GUENTER JAHN Guenter passed away on February 22, 2013 after long suffering from chronic lung disease. He leaves to mourn his wife, Hertha, his sisters-in-law Elsie (Len) Schreyer and Hilda Staska, his brother-in-law Ron (Marie) Hintz; his cousins Hugo and Tabea Kamenz; as well as his nephews, Randy and his children, Corey, Kelly and Christy, Jim (Cheryl) and their children, Jennifer and Brett, Darrell (Chantelle) and their children Madison, Quinn and Zoe; his special niece, Heather and her children, Jocelyne and Justine; his niece in Germany, Sylvia (Haci) and her son, Christopher. Guenter was born on January 2, 1926 in Wergzahna, Germany. As a young man he knew the terror and cruelty of war. In 1953, he came to Canada and worked in several jobs that required mechanical engineering skills. He started Manitoba Valve Co. and serviced many breweries and paper mills. He invented several devices to aid these industries and had patent rights for most countries in the western world. His last company, Orifice Industries, named after his last invention, had considerable success and he worked hard to satisfy his distributors. In 1963, he married Hertha and together they travelled widely and enjoyed a cottage on Pinawa Bay for some 30 years. There Guenter loved to watch and feed chipmunks and wild ducks, and whenever possible he went fishing with neighbours and friends. He also loved hunting for and picking wild mushrooms and then preparing them for one of his gourmet meals. Guenter was an eternal optimist who greatly appreciated the opportunities Canada gave him. As well Guenter was generous to a fault and truly loved to give rather than receive. A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Much gratitude is expressed to family and friends for their support, to the caring people of Cornerstone Estates and to the wonderful workers on the Palliative Care Unit 8A in St. Boniface Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, a donation can be made to Siloam Mission or to a charity of choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
