VICTORIA (BITZ) CAREY
Born: Oct 04, 1925
Date of Passing: Feb 22, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTORIA (BITZ) CAREY October 4, 1925 - February 22, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Victoria grew up in a large Saskatchewan farm family during difficult times. The second youngest in the family, Vicky graduated from Grade 12 in Allan, Saskatchewan and headed to the big city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she joined some of her older sisters and several of her aunts. It was in Winnipeg that Vicky met James (Jim) Carey. They married on May 21, 1955 and began a life together. They started their family in Edmonton, Alberta, moved to Dawson Creek, BC, then to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and finally settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Vicky was predeceased by Jim, her devoted husband of 42 years in 1997. Vicky was the loving mother to six children: Catherine (Paul), Jim (Laurie), Tom (Karen), Janet (Kim), John (Leslie), and Paul (Marnie). Vicky will always be remembered fondly by her 15 grandchildren: Celene Carey, Abigail and Claire Chochinov; Tim, Sara, Patrick, and Mary Carey; Joel (Vanessa), Caitlin (Nathan Wachal), and Carly Boyce; Breanna, Christopher, and Emily Carey; and Winnie and Alice Carey and great-grandson James Wachal. Victoria will also be missed by her sisters, Ida Whelan and Anna Mary Scarfe, sister-in-law, Therese Wright, and cousin Genevieve Kemp, all of whom she considered not only family but dearest friends. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law Lorette and Elaine Bitz, many nieces and nephews, and good friends of many years Trudy Cooper and Emily Sleeman. Victoria was a quiet, gentle woman of great faith and inner strength; she dealt with the difficulties in her life with determination and grace. Family was very important to Vicky and she was selflessly devoted to her husband and children. Being a grandmother and very recently a great-grandmother was a source of joy in her life. Vicky created a warm and loving home, so we are very grateful that with the help of an incredible team of women, Shirley Stewart, Anne Weins, Fran Everett, Ruth Hopfe and Chris Lussier, she was able to stay in her home -- the place she loved, the place where she was comfortable and felt safe, the place where the doors were always open to family and friends. She was truly an inspiration to her family. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette's Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choosing THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway, Winnipeg - 783-7211 Send expressions of sympathy at www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com

Dear Cathy, Jim Tom, Janet, John, Paul and Families. Our Deepest Sympathy to you all in the passing of your mother. We have such wonderful memories of our visit with you all last January. You will remain in our hearts and prayers. We also remember quite a number of years ago visiting in Winnipeg and your dear Mom served us such a lovely dinner even though it was a challenge for her at that time. - Posted by: Ron & Anne MacDonald - St. Catharines (Ron, a cousin to Victoria's husband Jim) on: Mar 05, 2013

Mrs Carey was a source of great comfort to me growing up. Being an only child for many years, Mrs Carey and her family welcomed me into the Carey clan and I was always accepted and made to feel like I was part of the family for which I will always feel grateful for. Mrs Carey was a dear and will be sadly missed by myself and my husband Larry. She was truly a kind and generous person, quiet but caring. She will be missed..... - Posted by: Lorraine Hannah (friend of the family) on: Mar 04, 2013

Tom, Janet, John and family I am sorry for the grief that you are going through. May you remember many good and funny times. May you sense God's arms of love bringing you peace and comfort. I didn't know your mom, but certainly heard many good things about her. I trust that her joy is now complete and she can dance unhindered! - love Frank Klassen - Posted by: Frank Klassen (Family friend) on: Mar 04, 2013

Dear Cathy Jim, Tom, John, Paul, and Janet and families, I am so sorry to hear about the death of your mother. The last time I talked to Gen she told me Vickie was very sick. I am so happy we were able to share good times and revisit many happy memories just one year ago at the celebration of Gen's 100th. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you now celebrate the wonderful life of your mother. She was a very special lady and she was so proud of all of you. Take care and love to you. mj - Posted by: Mary Jane Kurm (Cousin from Thunder Bay, Ontario) on: Mar 03, 2013
