DOUGLAS GEORGE WEBSTER March 2, 1946 - February 26, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas on February 26, 2013 with family by his side. Douglas leaves to mourn his wife Donna, of 47 years; daughter Donna Lynn (Michael); son Kevin (Helen); five grandchildren Corwin, Nolan, Makenzy, Shelby and Dylan; sisters Verna (Joey) and Lois (David) and their families; brothers-in-law Larry (Tammy) and Laurie (Val); sisters-in-law Marlene, Janice (John) and Cheryl (Ed), along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother May in 1974, father George in 1989 and stepmother Dorthy in 2008. Douglas was born in Winnipeg, MB and was raised in the Oakview area. He attended Darwin School and graduated from Ashern High school. Douglas was a member of the Dolly Bay Beef Club. He worked in Winnipeg until he married Donna Kerbrat in 1965. He then began farming in the Oakview area and, in 1968, moved to the Dog Lake area and continued to farm. In the winter of 1967 and spring of 1968 he took a short course in Agriculture and received a diploma certificate. Douglas began working in the plumbing trade in 1975 and then in 1977 he bought Lakeshore Plumbing and Heating. He received his journeyman plumber certificate in 1981. Doug operated the business in Ashern and surrounding area. He also did fly-ins, along with his good friend Alan, in the north for the R.C.M.P. until the fall of 2006. Douglas was an active member of the Ashern Elks Lodge #525 for the last 35 years. He went through all the chairs and had been Secretary for 17 years. Above all, Doug treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren at Willow Bay, Sleeve Lake and Kenora. After retirement, he returned to his daily fix of farming with Kevin. He also enjoyed winters in Arizona with the friends he and Donna made there for the last 12 years. All of his grandchildren will remember his talent of recycling from the dump or specials from the Flea Markets in Arizona and his many stories of beaver control at Sleeve Lake. In keeping with Doug's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at the Oakview Cemetery with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Friends and family are invited to join us in a Celebration of his Life to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Camper Hall. The family would like to thank the Ashern Ambulance attendants and the nurses and staff of the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's memory the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
