CATHERINE DOROTHY MAUNDERS (ENTZY)
Date of Passing: Nov 13, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE DOROTHY MAUNDERS (nee ENTZY) Dorothy ( Dot ) passed away unexpectedly at St. Boniface Hospital on November 13, 2012. Predeceased by her devoted husband, Bert, in 2008, and by her sister, Phyllis, in 2000, she will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her children Brenda (Barry) and Bruce (Helene), granddaughters Adrienne (Steve) and Avery (Sal), great-grandson Kale, relatives and friends. The daughter of Fred and Minnie Entzy, Dorothy was born, raised and educated in Norwood. During her teens she worked at Eatons, where she met Bert, the love of her life. They married in 1951 and settled into their long-time home in Windsor Park where they raised Brenda and Bruce - the twins . When the kids were older, Dorothy returned to work, first as office administrator at General Vanier School in the Windsor Park School Division, and later as secretary in the Feed Division of Swift Canadian. Even during these busy years she always kept her house as neat as a pin, and took pride in being organized and productive. She continued her sewing and knitting, much to the delight of all the recipients of her talents. She was also known as a great cook and excellent baker - Dorothy always had butter tarts, shortbread, pies and cakes tucked away for family and friends. Traveling was one of Bert and Dorothy's passions and they covered many miles throughout western Canada and the US and farther afield. They also enjoyed camping, and Clear Lake was a favourite destination. Family was very important to Dorothy and she insisted on celebrating every holiday, birthday and anniversary surrounded by as many family members as possible. Her great-grandchild, Kale, was the apple of her eye and she looked forward to every one of his visits. While always fiercely independent, Dorothy also relished wonderful friendships that had formed in her youth and grew stronger through the years. Her skill with computers let her stay in touch with even the most distant friends and relatives. Throughout her life, and especially during her later years, she greatly appreciated the many acts of kindness she received from people she knew and cared about. A special thank you to Kay Wall and Maurice Ingram for their generous and caring attention, and to Evelyn Triffo and other residents of Riverbend Plaza for their thoughtfulness and support. Dorothy's strength, determination and self-described off-beat sense of humour will be greatly missed.
