J. DAVID FLACK August 20, 1947 - March 15, 2013 Peacefully asleep at home, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of J. David Flack on Friday, March 15, 2013, at the age of 65. Left to cherish his memory are his loving children: Dena Stolp, Darla Flack, Dennis Flack; his grandchildren: Jordan Stolp, Kaelyn Stolp, Ayrianna Flack; his sister Phyllis Doerge (Arthur), his brother Donald Flack (Mary); his mother-in-law Juanita Johnson, his brother-in-law Boyd Johnson (Wilma), as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, friends, and co-workers. Predeceased by his Wife Melverta Flack, his father John Flack, and his mother Adele Flack. David was born in Bethalto, Illinois on August 20, 1947. He married Melverta at the age of 20 and moved to Minneapolis, MN as they pursued a calling in Ministry. Later they moved to Seattle, Washington then on to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he currently resided. Melverta passed away four months ago after a courageous battle with cancer. They had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. David enjoyed caring for his family, serving his church and the Deaf community. He will be remembered for his charismatic presence as he built relationships with those around him. His time spent in Ministry has lead to friendships across the US and Canada. He enjoyed travelling and loved the spontaneity of not having a plan. He worked hard, always on the move, but took the time to enjoy the scenery - especially flowers and landscaping. He had a passion for colour and design and built a garden and flower bed that he took pride in. He loved to entertain, play and have fun. His coworkers and friends will tell you he dressed the part, never afraid to be silly, engaged in activities, and enjoyed what he did. His grandchildren will miss their snuggle bunny' and the countless pillow fights. His children will carry on by remembering his many teachings, words of wisdom, never ending support, and love. A Memorial Service will be held in his honour on Thursday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, with Pastor Jeff Ramos, Springs Church, officiating. Special thanks to all of David's friends that have visited, sent messages, and called. His spirit would always be lifted just by knowing that you were thinking and praying for him and his loved ones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to: Canadian Red Cross, The Renal Clinic at Seven Oaks General Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. I was a student of Rev. Flack at NCBC back in 1975. He was a wonderful man, and at a hard time in my life, I was spending the summer working at Fa-Ho-Lo Camp in Grass Lake, MI, when David was there for Deaf Camp. After Deaf Camp, he knew I would have to go back into an undesirable home situation, and he and his wife took me in for the remainder of the summer until school began again in the fall. I flew back to MN with him and stayed with his family. His reaching out to a very troubled kid, truly saved my life. Grateful for him, and his influence in my life all those many years ago. Sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Sue Rosner-Goodman (Former student at NCBC) on: Apr 26, 2013

Dave Flack was my Sign Language teacher at North Central Bible College in the late '70's. It was his influence and encouragement that made me desire to become a Sign Language Interpreter. I can still see Dave walking down the hall of NCBC fingerspelling something as he went. He was so gracious to his students and always willing to help them. He will be missed by so many that have known him through the years. - Posted by: Gretchen (Gibbons) Toay (former Sign Language student of Dave Flack) on: Mar 21, 2013

I remember both Dave and Melverta when they moved their family to Seattle, Washington in 1979 when they worked in our Deaf Church for four years before moving to Canada. I have many fond memories of those years as well as meeting again in 1993 when our drama group, Master's Hands performed in Winnipeg. I only knew David for a short time, but in that time I grew to find a very charismatic soul. David was never afraid to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Blessings go to his family, as David now takes you under his wings. - Posted by: Nici Hamilton (former co-worker) on: Mar 20, 2013

DF (ASL Sign Name) Emory never forgot that DF took him while he was young minister at Deaf International Bible College of Minneapolis to clothing store to treat him to a new suit and pant and tie as young minister. He did want to do this cuz pastor did treat DF same thing in his early ministry days. So Emory and Cindy did carry DF's tradition by treating a young Deaf couple (current ministers to Deaf) same thing again. Simple Expression but Memorable Impression! DF loved Deaf community and church as Christ loved His Deaf church. love and prayer Emory and Cindy Dively of St. Paul, MN USA. - Posted by: Emory and Cindy Dively (co-laborers for Christ) on: Mar 20, 2013

David made a huge contribution to the sign language interpreting field in Winnipeg by serving in leadership roles in the evaluation of interpreters competencies & eligibility for national certification of skills. I'll remember his candor, dry wit & adherence to the ideals of what was a newly developing field of work back in the 70s & early 80s. How lucky we all were to have him in our midst. For his family..I am very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Janice Hawkins (colleague in interpreting) on: Mar 19, 2013

David, we never forgot that his dedications to give his time as willingly to do care, help, love his people as like he care of his shepherd in many different situation ways for may years as his never stopped, we didn't do that as like his greatly show how much he patience with his people thru "Hurricane" hard times. We didn't thank him enough but we thank God that given his life to teach, show, care that we learn from his simply is very easier. We do remember him and his wife (Melverta) as we continue to pray for this family as His Embrace with them to be comfortable. Dave was one of the most positive people I ever met at Home Depot. His compassionate nature to everyone made him one of my favorite Guys to work with. His smile and caring ways with customers bring positive results everytime. As per knowing ASL his interaction with hearing imparied people was a contribution to our store that resulted loyalty to him and to our store. Everytime he visited our store I always teased him to join us again and he just smiled and left us with positive thoughts with smile. I'm glad he was part of my life even for a short time. God Bless and May you rest in peace and Dance with the Angels - Posted by: luchie Sevcik (former colleague) on: Mar 18, 2013

I know Pastor David Flack when I met him at Calvary Temple. He has helped so many people I know including me. He has shown me that we young people have the chance to show we CAN. He is very diplomatic and neutral whatever he can. I will never forget the time of his wonderful and inspiring preaching at Red Rock Camp many years ago. My sympathies goes to Dena and the rest of the families. - Posted by: Sheila Montney () on: Mar 18, 2013

David Flack has been wonderful to us and was a true servant of Christ. we were so blessed that The Lord used him many ways, he was our. Mentor, skilled bible study teacher that has drawn us closer to The Lord. He was very patient when I asked many questions, willing to explain. He loves to work with Deaf people, in the Community outreach, bible camp and interpreting. He is very creative, he sews and has taste of color coordination as well as cooking. He is also an encourager, believes Deaf people can go further to prosper whatever their heart desire. We miss him dearly and we thank God for all He has used David. We are sure He will say "well done My faithful servant!" So long, see you later brother. We love you! David was always smiling and personable and when he worked with my dad, they had so many good laughs together. David made the craziest hat and cane when dad retired from CT. Both parents were Such a Blessing to our family and now with my parents in Heaven, I'm sure they are all experiencing what we will, when we see them again. Heartfelt condolences for all of you! May the Peace that passes ALL Understanding be So ever present with each of you. - Posted by: Learie and Leanne Peters (Friends of Leanne's parents and knew both From Calvary Temple.) on: Mar 18, 2013
