Joe was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years, and retained tight ties with the military community after his retirement from service, with many lifelong friends. Joe volunteered at the Military Family Resource Centre for many years, and he and Lois were awarded the Manitoba Council on Aging's Recognition Award in 2012 for their extensive volunteer services to the community. After retiring from the military, Joe worked on the DEW line in Nunavut for many years, meeting good mates and cribbage partners during his time on the "line", and forming particularly tight bonds and memorable stories with many of the mates from the "line". Joe tried retirement a second time in 2002, but, not being one to sit idle, again succumbed to the temptation of work and spent almost ten years as a commissionaire at Winnipeg City Hall and is remembered fondly by his friends there. Joe was affable and loyal, building and keeping a community of cherished friends during his life. His family is grateful to all friends and colleagues for their endless kindnesses and support during Joe's illness and would also like to thank the compassionate staff on wards 3 South and 4 South of the Grace. Special thanks also to Brian and Heather Jacques, Chief Warrant Officer Frank Emond (ret'd), and Mona Currie for all of their compassionate support. I have only just today learned of Joe's untimely passing. I remember Joe very well from his days at City Hall. He was a true gentleman in every way and I enjoyed our chats when we worked together. My condolences to Lois and the family. - Posted by: Jae Eadie () on: Apr 18, 2013

Spent many a Fall day walking the woods with Joe pretending we were hunting when in reality we were just "out there". No time like it, no friend like him. He will be missed. Prayers are with Lois and the Family - Posted by: Steve Harrison (Friend & hunting buddy) on: Mar 20, 2013

JOE (the hammer) was a "SPECIAL" person. He was an outstanding person in the military and an exceptional logistician when he worked for us on the NWS (dew) Line. The world was a better place for him having been here. We shall all miss him. To Lois and the family-take care and God bless. Cheers Lois, Joe and Larry Lecour - Posted by: Lois and Joe Lecour and Larry Lecour (co-workers and friends) on: Mar 20, 2013

Joe and Lois have remained our life-long friends. Arlene was Lois' host sister in a 4-H exchange program in 1963 and Joe became our Canadian "brother" when he married Lois. Joe will always be remembered for his wit and wisdom and his willingness to help down on the farm when they came to Nebraska. Farewell Joe and may peace abound for your loving family! - Posted by: Roger & Arlene Gabelman (Nebraska friends) on: Mar 19, 2013

We met Joe in 1983 and he and Lois remained very good friends of ours ever since. Joe looked after Elsie and our girls on many occasions while I was away for training or other military duties. Over the years, we have enjoyed wonderful visits, and it was always a pleasure to sit and have a cup of tea with Joe and Lois. He will be missed! - Posted by: Len & Elsie Corley (friends) on: Mar 19, 2013
