VERN YORK Peacefully, on March 19, 2013, Vern Lyle York, at age of 90 passed away. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gwen; daughters Gail (Rick Rewniak) and Barb (Doug Cortens); grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, Jessica and Kevin; and nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by brothers Ivan and Bruce and grandson Trevor. Vern was born in Springfield and raised mainly in Arden, Manitoba. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and served four years. This is where he learned to repair airplane engines, which led to his jobs as an aircraft maintenance engineer at Central Northern and Transair, which later became Pacific Western. Vern loved his work, his family and golfing at Bel Acres. He was especially proud of the achievements of his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed a happy life until his illness made it difficult. He spent his last year at Deer Lodge Centre where he received outstanding care from the devoted workers on 3W. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.   • Gwen and Vern were great neighbors. There place was always our kids second home. How Jodie loved to comb Vern's hair when she was a little girl. Many times for lunch Kevin would go down with his buttered piece of bread looking for something better for his sandwich than what had been left for him.
