WERNER HANS JOACHIM POHL December 26, 1941 March 24, 2013 Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on Sunday, March 24, 2013 with his family by his side. Werner leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife Adina, daughter Helga Benzie (Dave), son Garry (Roxanne), grand-children Jaclyn, Matthew and Richard; his sister Erika Hartberger in Austria, brothers Kurt and Rudi and their families in Berlin, Germany, his sister Renate Bixler in Florida, special nephew Robert (and family) in Baltimore and special niece Barbara (and family) in Vancouver. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their families, relatives and many friends. Werner was predeceased by his parents Gertrud and Ernst Pohl, parents-in-law Lydia and Wilhelm Schindel, brothers-in-law Erwin Hartberger, Bob Bixler, Artur and Ernst Schindel and his infant grandson David Werner Benzie. Werner was born in Berlin, Germany on December 26, 1941. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 18. He met the love of his life, Adina in 1962 and were married September 14, 1963. They lovingly raised their children and as each of them wed, our family happily expanded. The Pohl family tree was completed with the arrival of grandchildren Jaclyn, Matthew and Richard. He was a painter by trade and owned and operated Unicity Wallpapering & Painting for many years. He took pride in his work and it showed. He was an avid sports enthusiast whether he participated or watched. He was an honest man and a man of his word. He was a loving and devoted husband and a loving, caring and proud father and grandfather. He was a supportive and faithful friend. His helping hands never seemed to tire. We already miss the sound of his voice and his laugh and the feel of his hugs. We wish to thank the doctors and nurses in ICU at the Victoria Hospital for the exceptional and compassionate care he received. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. Flowers are graciously declined. If you wish to make a donation in Werner's memory please donate to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6 and/or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2E8. • There are so many memories I have & cherish about my father-in-law Werner, he was such a great & loving man. He had such a strong bond with his family, both him & Adina instilled such deep morals & values in Helga & my husband Garry, he taught them to work hard at whatever it was that they chose to do in life & to be proud of their work. I was brought up the same way by my own parents & was so happy when my parents became friends with my mother & father-in-law. We had so many great times at the cottage but my favourite times were when we all spent time in Arizona together every year whether it be sitting outside their place to enjoy a huge meal or just walking over to their place at night to sit around & chit chat. I will never forget all the times I spent with him, I will cherish every memory & am so proud & happy that I am lucky enough to be part of their family, they welcomed me with open arms almost 19 years ago & I will be forever grateful that I could share so many important milestones with them. I love Werner, he was like a second Dad to me & I feel honoured to be able to call him Dad! I love you, I miss you everyday & thank you for letting me be such a huge part of your life. - Posted by: Roxanne Pohl (Daughter-in-law) on: Apr 03, 2013

  • I still remember going snowmobieling with Werner in Point du Bois at the Cottage. The news of his passing saddened me. He will be greatly missed by his famely and friends - Posted by: Klaus Trampe (Friend) on: Mar 28, 2013

  • My memories of Werner go back 48 years when we were young and played waterpolo in the Sherbrook Pool and the brand-new Pan Am Pool. The players of those days formed a bond that now spans nearly half a century. Werner was a steadfast hard working waterpolo player. Strong for his team and a strong defender of his mates whenever a referee offended his sense of fairness. Score a few goals up there for us, Werner. In time we'll join you. Farewell, my dear friend. • Werner taught me how to paint a room when I was 62 years old. I'll pass it on. I'll miss him. - Posted by: Sandra Cocks (Friend) on: Mar 27, 2013

  • Werner was a gifted craftsman and a generous friend. His integrity in all things made him special. His eyes sparkled whenever he talked about a wood project or a golf game. But his eyes sparkled the most when he talked about his beloved Adina. I miss him. - Posted by: Dennis Cocks (Friend) on: Mar 27, 2013
