FREDERICK (FRED) OKALUK It is with heavy hearts that we say "goodbye for now" to Fred, a dear husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Fred was born in Sylvan, MB and moved to Winnipeg at an early age. He will be sadly missed by his wife Theresa, son Wayne (Jennifer), daughter Linda (Martin), grandkids Amanda (Justin), Tiffany (Shay), Nicholas, Samantha and newborn great-grandson Reid. Also surviving are his sister Annie, twin brother Mel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his dad, mom and brother Mike. Fred worked as an auto painter most of his life, but in his spare time most people could find him in his garage, building, fixing, and inventing new things. He enjoyed building his cabin outside Lac du Bonnet with his family. He enjoyed family and friends visiting and always had a story to tell or a word of advice. He loved the outdoors, fishing and snowmobiling were his favourite. You will be greatly missed but Heaven must have needed you for a "project". In keeping with Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

  • Fred and Theresa moved next door to my parents when I was probably around 11 or so and both of them have forever stuck in my head. Salt of the earth people to say the least! Whenever I had a problem with my snowmobile, or my Honda 3 wheeler, I would wander over to Fred's place and low and behold he would always be found tinkering in his garage. Never once did I ever get the feeling that I was bothering him at all. In fact he always looked happy to see me! I don't know if it was that he knew I had a challenge for him or if it was just the fact that he loved helping out a neighbors kid, I think it was a little of both. The part that always stuck in my head was that he 'helped' me fix it, he didn't just 'do' it for me. It was that teacher inside of him that made me learn. What a guy is all I have to say! When my dad built his shop, he was the first guy to come and help, in fact now that I'm thinking about it, he told my dad that "mike and I will team up and put the chimney through the roof", and as a team that is exactly what we did! Typing away here, I remember when Fred and Theresa took me to their cabin in lac du bonnet and that is where they taught me how to waterski. As all things usually go, they moved away and we lost touch, until last summer, my dad and I were at a&w in Lockport and we saw them there. It was real nice to see the two of them again! Take care Theresa, you are a strong woman and let's forever in our hearts never forget Fred! What a guy is all I have to say. - Posted by: Mike Ladobruk (Old neighbor) on: Apr 10, 2013

  • Aunty Terry & Family, we are so sorry for your loss. We loved Uncle Fred's & yours (Aunty Terry) company whenever we came together. Uncle Fred always had a story or two or three & always followed with smiles & laughs for all. I'm only sorry I didn't get him his holubchi that he so craved & smelled when we saw you guys last. May he indulge in the best Holubchi ever. Forever missed, forever thought of. Roy & Bernice Okaluk - Posted by: Roy & Bernice Okaluk (Nephew/Niece) on: Apr 01, 2013

  • How lucky we were to have Fred and Theresa as neighbours at the cottage. Fred, with his quick smile and eagerness to help us with any projects we took on. If we ran into difficulty, our first thought was, "Let's ask Fred" and he always knew the answer. He was an amazing man. More than that, we appreciated his friendship. We will miss you at the campfire with your stories and funny jokes. Rest in peace, Fred. Our condolences to Theresa and the family.
