SOLVEIG ANDERSON May 1, 1920 - March 26, 2013 Solveig Anderson peacefully passed away with family by her side at the Simkin Centre where she has lived since September 2008. Solveig was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 1994, by her three brothers, Harold, Erling and Trigve Norheim and one sister Gudrun Denison. Also predeceasing her were her in-laws: Bob MacCormack, Earl Denison, and Margaret Norheim; one niece, Joyce Denison, three nephews, Dale and David Norheim and John Engle. Especially feeling her loss are her children and their spouses: Linda and Wayne Hughes, Don Anderson and Ingrid K. Nickel, and Danny Anderson; her grandchildren and their families: Hollie Anderson and Manon Bouchard, Shona and Jeff Beaudin, Ryan and Tracy Hughes and their children, Keely and Brenna, and Joel and Karrie Anderson. Solveig is also deeply missed by her last remaining sister Hjordis (Jordy) MacCormack, her sisters-in-law, Julia and Millie Norheim, Heather Anderson and her husband Terry, many nieces and nephews and Tracy's mother, Elaine Webb, and her husband Rick. Solveig was born in Saskatchewan where she lived until 1965, when she moved with her family to Winnipeg. During her years in Saskatchewan, Solveig was involved in many activities with friends and family and she and her husband Leonard played in an orchestra at all the country dances in the rural area where they lived. In Winnipeg, Solveig developed many friendships through her membership at the Breezy Bend Golf Course, participation in curling leagues, and in the many bridge clubs that she enjoyed over the years. The family would like to thank Elaine Webb, who helped us care for our mother over the past six years, the staff on Simkin One at the Simkin Centre for the care and love they gave to our mother and Bernis Joyner who faithfully visited almost every week for the past six years. Solveig loved spring. It was her favorite time of the year and she could hardly wait to get out into her flower beds to start another season of gardening. It is fitting that she should die in the spring of the year. In the same way that the coming of Spring is relieving us of the burden of the cold and snow of winter, so has her passing during the Spring season relieved Solveig of the burden of coping with the challenges and disabilities caused by her severe stroke. A funeral service for Solveig will be held on April 3, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The service will be followed by a reception for those who wish to stay and share their condolences and memories with the family. If so desired, donations in our mother's memory may be made to the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre, 1 Falcon Ridge Drive, Winnipeg R3Y 1V9 for the purpose of purchasing specialized resident care equipment.
