Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENE ARPIN (nee JOYAL) 1921 - 2013 Peacefully, on Thursday, March 28, 2013, Hélène Arpin passed away at the age of 91 at Foyer Valade. She leaves to mourn her passing her children Maurice (Cecilia), (Gene Croucher), Gisèle (Norbert Collette) and Claude (Carole), her grandchildren Stéphane (Dana) Collette, Chantal (Daniel) Bender; Mélanie (Greg) Anderson, Danielle (Phil), Nicole (Josh); Kelli Croucher and Emmanuelle; and a great-granddaughter Amélie Collette. She is also survived by her brothers Jean and Noël (Lori) Joyal and sisters Paulette Lafond, Rolande, S.N.J.M. and Monique. Hélène was predeceased by her parents Théophile and Marie-Rose (Pelletier) Joyal; her husband Yvon; her daughter Louise (Croucher); and brothers Gérard, Rosaire, Joseph, Julien, Denis and Lionel. From a very young age, Hélène was always an honour student both in academics and musically. She graduated in 1938 from l'Académie St-Joseph in St-Boniface a recipient of the French Republic's "Médaille d'honneur du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères" for excellence in French and was an accomplished conservatory-trained pianist. She espoused a career as an elementary school teacher in 1941, devoting 31 years to the Red River School Division, mostly in St. Malo. She is well remembered by her numerous students as a serious and concerned teacher, a perfectionist who knew how to use music and song as a reward for work well done. She was renowned in francophone Manitoba for her exceptional musical talent, which she readily shared with teaching colleagues. Countless are the times she enhanced the quality of a choir's performance by her original and creative accompaniment. She was active at the community level, volunteering her time and talent to support local initiative. In 1999, she was presented an award for 52 years of service as the Parish church organist. Hélène had a great love for her family. Together with Yvon, whom she married in 1947, she raised four children. She was cheerful and encouraging, patient and just, a down-to-earth and affectionate person who cared immensely for everybody's well-being, sometimes, as is the case for many mothers, at the expense of her own. A doting and attentive grandmother, she had a special love for her seven grandchildren, whose lives she followed with interest and genuine support, and her precious great-granddaughter Amélie Collette. She is going to be sadly missed by family and friends, remembered as a true source of inspiration, as a person who lived a full life, a woman of conviction who devoted her life to the things and values she believed in. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the third floor staff of Foyer Valade. The gathering, a eulogy and a powerpoint montage presentation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Father Antoine Vo Van Hoa officiating. Interment will be done at a later date. Hélène formally expressed her wish that all donations made on the occasion of her passing be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. À la famille Arpin et Joyal, toutes mes condoléances pour la perte de cette femme extraordinaire. J'ai connu madame Arpin lorsque je fréquentais Louise à l'École de Saint-Pierre et par la suite, lorsqu'elle a fait du bénévolat pour l'alphabétisation et Pluri-elles. Ma mère, Fernande Bruyère Paré, nous a fréquemment parlé de son amie, Hélène Joyal Arpin et était toujours heureuse d' avoir de ses nouvelles. Elle nous avait visité et ma mère était aussi allé la voir au Manitoba. C' est avec tristesse que nous avons appris son décès.
