Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Robert Eager was the navigator on Lancaster KB799 (The Moose) that crashed close to our home in Germany on Jan. 15, 1945. Their story is worth retelling. Pilot N. Roger Vatne stayed with the aircraft and perished in the crash, but Robert and his crewmates were able to bail out, spending the rest of the war in German POW camps. The crash site has only recently been identified as that of KB799. Vatne and the crew will be commemorated at the site on Mar. 27, 2023 - Vatne's 100th birthday. Accordingly, I am trying to locate members of Robert's family to share this story, Please feel free to contact me at "stevegilbert@t-online.de". • My father is not computer literate so I took it upon myself to look up Robert for him. My dad thought that perhaps Robert had died since he had not been in communication with him for a couple of years. I will let him know today. I am sure he will have many thoughts and memories of their times overseas. Dad is now the last surviving member of their crew and it must seem strange and I am sure make feel somewhat melancholy. I know it has been 9 months since Robert passed, but my thoughts are with you. Glenn Woods - Posted by: Ronald C Woods (flight crew during the war) on: Nov 25, 2014
