VICTORIA LAKUSTA (nee KRELATY) February 19, 1928 - April 2, 2013 We are all very saddened by the very sudden yet peaceful passing of a very gentle soul, Victoria Lakusta, at her home, just as in life, with her husband and cat by her side. Victoria (Baba) is survived by her husband Maurice (Meroslaw), sister Olga Makodanski (Mike), daughter Shirley, and her pride and joy, granddaughters Vicky and Robyn, along with her very special furry companion, Albert. She also leaves behind many wonderful neighbourhood friends. Victoria was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Wasyl Krelaty, her inlaws, Annie and George Lakusta, siblings Mary, Anne, Joe, Fred, Sidney and Nick, her son-in-law Robert B. Coffey, and most recently her very close friend Doreen Kolikowski. Victoria's life started with very humble beginnings in Gardenton, MB, where she grew up as one of eight children. She eventually went on to teach for several years until she met and married her knight in shining armour (he was actually in a baseball uniform the first time they met - thanks to his brother and her best friend who were secretly meeting at her home). Once they were married in 1951, they lived in Gardenton for a few years and then Gonor, MB, until they moved to Winnipeg in 1956, and finally in 1960, when they became parents, to the place they called home to this day in the North End. Unfortunately, Victoria did suffer from some medical issues which often restricted her from an active social life, but thank goodness for her friends/neighbours whom she loved to chat and LAUGH with on most evenings in the summer and fall. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the members of our little community for their show of support, including staff at Robertson School. We would also like to thank all of the attending fire and paramedic personnel, Rachel and Jan of the Winnipeg Police Service and Barb from the medical examiner's officer for their sincere compassion and complete professionalism in this matter. With respect to Victoria's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, with Reverend Doug Martindale officiating, on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., with interment to take place at a later date. A light lunch will follow the proceedings. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that any donations wanting to be made in Victoria's name should be passed on to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
