OTTO PAUL MEHL 1930 - 2013 Otto Paul Mehl, devoted husband of Monica for 60 years and dear Opa to Crystan, Jessica and Eric, passed away peacefully at the Beausejour Hospital on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Otto is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Kathy, great-grandchildren, Kasandra, Alex and Dylan, a brother and a sister in Germany and many friends in the Anola / Beausejour area. Otto was predeceased by his sons: Otto Jr. (1998), Albert (2007), Bernie (2011) and a grandson, Steven (2011). Otto was born in Germany in an area that became annexed by Poland after the First World War. Life was difficult for a young family so, in 1958, he left Poland with his wife, Monica and his young sons, Bernie and Albert. He immigrated back to Germany for a short while then, still seeking a better life, he moved his family to Australia where Otto mastered the English language. While in Australia, son Otto Jr. was born. Still restive, Otto then brought his family to Canada in 1969. After spending a few years in Winnipeg, Otto moved his family to his beloved farm east of Anola where he continued to live until September, 2012 when failing health necessitated a move into the town of Beausejour. Otto was a gardener par excellence. He retired from Great West Life at age 62 after spending 20 years as their head gardener. After retirement, Otto continued to lovingly tend to the huge vegetable and flower gardens on his farm. He diligently cared for the many plants at church insuring a beautiful welcome for all who passed through the doors of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church. Otto was also a master at wine making. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, singing in the church choir for many years, fishing and looking after his chickens and rabbits. Always kind and generous, Otto achieved his greatest happiness when he could share the fruits of his labour with his family and friends. Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Anola on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Please meet at the front gates at 10:15 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Our Lady of Hope Church. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

We will always remember Otto for his kindness and generosity, with offering us bedding plants, and sharing homemade wine on occasion! He was always eager to offer needed gardening tips. He was very much a gentleman who showed consideration to everyone who was fortunate to know him and we consider it an honour to have had that pleasure. Our deepest sympathy Monica for your loss of this special man. - Posted by: Wendy and Bill Hnytka (Friends) on: Apr 06, 2013
