MARJORIE MITCHELL SHAW 1918 - 2013 Our Mom and Great-Grandma passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Marjorie was predeceased by husband Jim in 1995 and oldest son Donald in 1998. Left to mourn her passing are brother Stewart Mckay, daughters Janet (Jim) Werner, Heather (Brian) Gillespie, son Gregor Shaw (Idelmar), five grandchildren David (Natalie) Werner (Noah, Eric) and Sue Werner (Stacy Kadis), Dusty Gillespie, (Dylan, Ethan, Dalton) Jamie (Kari) Gillespie, (Tyler, Jessie) Ashley (Miguel) Lambert, (Shane, Matthew, Anabelle). Marge was born and grew up in Winnipeg where she married Jim upon his return from the Second World War in 1945. They moved from Winnipeg following the Great Flood of 1950 and took up farming in the Argyle area where they raised their four children. In 1990 they retired from farming and moved to Stonewall. Following Jim's passing in 1995 Marge continued her involvement with the ACW of the Church of the Ascension and became a regular volunteer at Stonewood Place calling bingo and helping out in many ways well into her 90s. In her lifetime Marge enjoyed her opportunities to travel and many times visited family, friends and far off places including Europe, the US and across Canada. In 2012 Marge had a heart attack and spent many months in St. Boniface and Stonewall Hospitals. Following her recovery she moved to Woodland Courts assisted living facility in Selkirk where she developed many new and dear friendships. She often spoke of the wonderful way she was treated and the support she received from everyone that helped in her recovery. In Marge's words: "I have had a wonderful life and think of how fortunate I have been. The world as we know it has changed so much and yet so many things remain the same. The importance of friends and family and the joy of seeing your children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren begin their lives has meant so much to me". The family would like to acknowledge the special care and kindness provided to mom by the staff of Stonewall Hospital and especially Dr. Graham whose support and encouragement helped her regain the quality of life she enjoyed until her passing. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie's Funeral Home Stonewall. In lieu of flowers those who wish may donate to Stonewall Hospital or a charity of their choice. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Marj Shaw was a very energetic and talented lady as well as a good friend to my mother, Madge Lefebvre. We were neighbours living along the same road just north of Argyle. My parents were friends with Marj and Jim and my siblings and I were close in age to Janet, Donald, Heather and Gregor. Many Argyle children belonged to the 4-H club and I really enjoyed having Marj help teach my friends and I many crafts, sewing or cooking skills. Marj was very active in the Argyle community and Argyle Legion activites. She was a good friend to my mom and I really appreciated that. I was very disappointed to miss the celebration of Marj's life in Stonewall due to the whiteout snowstorm and slippery roads, but I am sure there were lots of wonderful memories related. God Bless You, Marj! I hope you amd Mum are able to catch up on your news. Gail Lefebvre - Posted by: Gail Lefebvre (former neighbour/family friend) on: Apr 16, 2013

  • We will miss Marj so much. She was always an interesting part of our family dinners when she visited her Vancouver family. Her spirit and open mind kept her young as well as her many interests. What a great lady who lived a great life! The Shewfelt family - Posted by: Bonnie Shewfelt (Friend) on: Apr 11, 2013
