ALICE KACHUR (nee LUCIUK) August 7, 1926 - April 9, 2013 Alice passed away April 9, 2013 at River East Personal Care Home. She had a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She died peacefully with her family by her side. She is survived by her three children: Wm. Jr. (Bill and Alexandra) Kachur, Walter (Porky and Linda) Kachur, Jeffrey (Jeff and Patricia) Kachur, three grandchildren Jodie Kachur, Pamela Kachur (Corey Goshulak), and Victoria (Pierre-Luc) Archambault, and many beloved nephews, nieces, neighbours, and personal friends. Alice was predeceased by her husband Bill (Sr.) in 1997, her brother Walter Luciuk in 2012, and her parents Zenko and Likora Luciuk in the 1960s. Mom grew up in rural Saskatchewan in the area known as Perryville. She eventually taught school in and around the same area. In 1949 she married local boy Wm. (Bill) Kachur. They decided to move to Winnipeg to be near relatives and big city life. Together they began a small trucking business and got busy starting a family. For a short while every time dad got a new truck, Mom got a new son. Mom did the bookkeeping part of the business until eventually the company grew big enough to hire someone full time to take over that job. Dad and Mom's hard work saw their business grow into something that they both became very proud of. The company Kachur's Sand and Gravel Ltd. stands as a result of their determination. Alice enjoyed community volunteer work. She participated diligently in the developments of parks and recreational areas in the North End and North Kildonan areas where they had lived. Her name is mentioned on park plaques and also at Concordia Hospital for her volunteer efforts. Mom's passion for entertaining at their home in North Kildonan was renowned for neighbourhood parties, NDP events, and family gatherings where something was always happening. She absolutely loved having people over. Her Ukrainian cooking was so good; she received an invitation to prepare a special dish at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, when her friends Ed and Lilly Schreyer requested their attendance. Not long after Dad's passing Mom had to move from her beloved home because of the on-coming Alzheimer's disease. After which she lived in Kildonan House, Irene Baron Eden Centre, and finally in River East Personal Care Home. The family wishes to personally thank Dr. Doris Kyeremateng for her medical attention, helping to keep her vibrant and healthy for so long. All along her relocating, she made special friendships. Each place has wonderful, caring staff members that showed her respect, love and gave attention to all her needs. She was very happy. One of the very special people, Ursula Henschke became Mom's rock. They laughed and cried together, and spent years sharing each other's company. Thank you for always looking out for her and being by her side. We can't thank you enough. Mrs. Pearl Green and Mrs. Daisy Geall are two other special friends that lived alongside her. Mom always said her life was blessed with good friends and family past and present. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Alice's life will take place on April 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB with Deacon Gordon Mendres officiating.
