Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE JOSEPHINE SLEEVA (nee SKARZYNSKI) Bernice Sleeva passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg on April 3, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Bernice was predeceased by her husband Edward Sleeva, brother Frank Skarzynski (Helen), and parents Walter and Ida (Hrabarchuk) Skarzynski. She is survived by her son Don Sleeva (Melodie) in Winnipeg, daughter Charmaine Dobson (Ron) in Calgary, beloved grandchildren Ryan, Kristin, Lauren and Jonathan, brother Ed Scarth (Cheryl), and numerous other family members and friends. Born in Winnipeg on April 16, 1928, Bernice and husband Ed moved to Canora, SK for a time before returning to Winnipeg, where she and Ed put down strong, longtime roots in the St. Vital area. Bernice took pleasure in gardening, knitting, camping and trailer trips, and was a talented seamstress. For many years Bernice and Ed enjoyed their annual winter getaways in Arizona. She also enjoyed cooking and will be fondly remembered for her Sunday roast dinners, apple pie and buckwheat perogies, which haven't yet found their match. She was a caring daughter and sister, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and loyal friend, who will be remembered for her cheerful nature and always-welcoming home. The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for the wonderful care provided to Bernice over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 847 St. Mary's Road in Winnipeg, followed by interment at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. 204-586-8044

We just learned of Bernice's passing. Thank you Char for letting us know. Your mother was a jewel... She was always smiling, and brought so much joy and warmth to the Bruhn family. She shared such a precious friendship and bond with dad "Clarence". I know in my heart that their special relationship helped dad to find his way through our mom's loss, but more than that, illuminated her gift warmth and love through our whole family. Charmine, Ron, Ryan and Kristen, My thoughts and prayers are with you all. It is always difficult losing a mother and grandmother. Time will help to heal the hurt and you will be able to smile and laugh at some of the goofy things she used to say and do. Mom, although you have been gone from me for a while, your passing is very difficult. I love you dearly and know you are in a better place. Much love and heartfelt condolences go to Charmaine, Donald and all of Auntie Bernice's close family. Auntie Bernice always seemed to show a ready smile and I'm left with many fond childhood memories of fun times enjoying her tasty baked treats and backyard family gatherings. She was also instrumental in arranging my very first paid job working on her family's St. Vital market garden. I remember her playfully kicking up her heels on the dance floor at Uncle Steve's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
