RONALD CHARLES TANNER
Born: Apr 29, 1946
Date of Passing: Apr 09, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD CHARLES TANNER April 29, 1946 April 9, 2013 In an instant on April 9, 2013, we lost our loving husband, dad and grandpa, our rock, at the age of 66. Above all else he loved his family and he was always there for us. We were so lucky to have him for as long as we did, but can't help feel he was taken too soon. Ron will be forever missed by his loving wife of 43 years Heather; his children Rhonda Hawthorne (John) and Rick (Diana); and his grandsons Jesse, Jake, and Luca; his siblings Linda Prokopetz, (Jerry), Jeff Tanner (Joanne), Barb Brown (Larry), and Patrick Tanner (Debbie); his brothers-in-law Jack Graham (Patricia) and Roy Graham (LaVonne); his sisters-in-law Margaret Scurfield (David) and Sandra Tanner, and his countless nieces, nephews, cousins, long-time friends, and neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents James and Della Tanner, brother Jackie Tanner, in-laws Allan and Fanny Patton, and son-in-law Kyle German. Ron was born and raised in Binscarth, Manitoba, where he met the love of his life, his soul mate, Heather, when he was 17 years old. They got married on August 30, 1969 and moved to Winnipeg where they built a wonderful and happy life together. Ron was a draftsman; he spent 27 years with Dominion Bridge, and finished his career with KGS Group. Ron loved athletics; as a young man he excelled at track, hockey, football, and played every sport he could. He continued to enjoy sports his whole life; he dedicated his time to watching his kids play sports, coached and volunteered in the community, specifically the St. Vital Victorias. He loved to curl and played until his death. He never missed any event, big or small in Rhonda and Rick's lives; whether it was a hockey practice, game or a gymnastics event, he was always there, a quiet presence that you could always count on. Ron led by example. Despite his quiet demeanor, he had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He gave great advice, always positive, encouraging, and genuinely interested in what you had to say. He loved to fish and spent a week every summer in Camp Waterfall fishing with his son and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandsons in Lester Beach, Calgary and Canmore. More recently he discovered Hawaii and loved it. Ron was a big Winnipeg Jets fan and was at the game Tuesday night where he saw the Jets beat the Sabres 4-1. Ron was devoted to his family, everything he did was to make their lives better. He was very proud of his children and they could not have asked for a more selfless and loving father. He loved his daughter-in-law and son-in-law like they were his own. Ron's grandsons were the highlight of his life even if he did not have much time with them. We cannot imagine life without our Dad, he will be sadly missed and forever kept in our hearts. Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic. Prayers will be held at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd on April 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church on April 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. with the interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Pallbearers will be John Hawthorne, Sheldon Graham, Al Scurfield, Ben Dionne, Patrick Nolan, and Ian Taylor. Thank you to the emergency staff at the Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dream Factory or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Dearest Heather, I just heard about Ron's passing last night. Some of the fondest memories I have are from when I was a young child and hung out with uncle Jimmy, aunt Della, "Ronnie" and the rest of the family. I also remember how much he loved and respected you...rightly so. I am sending you and your family my Very Deepest Sympathy. Although I live far away I hope our paths cross again. Love, Katherine and Michael. (Las Vegas, 702-434-2735, mcylke@cox.net) - Posted by: Katherine Cylke (Cousin) on: Apr 17, 2013

My most sincere condolences to the Tanner family. It was very saddening to read of this news.
