EILEEN MARIE BLAIS (nee SLOANE) April 30, 1942 - April 12, 2013 On April 12, 2013 our beautiful mom, wife, Aunty, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother left us with her family by her side. With the heaviest of hearts we had to say goodbye to our ray of sunshine. She was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Bernadette Sloane, her brother Lloyd, and her sister Beverly. Left behind to cherish all the wonderful memories are her husband Laurel, children Yvette (Ron), Denis (Lisa), Eddy (Lisa), Cherie Warren, Suzanne (Derek). Her brothers Ken and Leslie, and her sister Bernice. Eileen had 16 grandchildren who she adored to the moon and back Kyle, Desiree, Crystal, Bailey, Jared, Halley, Zachary, Memorie, Terry, Jayden, Lara, Gage, Tawney, Taina, Brandon, Sierra and three great-grandchildren Adam, Thomas, and Preston. Eileen was born in Windsor, Ontario, to Lloyd and Bernadette Sloane. She grew up in Winnipeg with her siblings. Eileen married Laurel on June 26, 1964, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg, MB. They raised their family in St. Laurent, MB. She worked at the sewing factory, St. Laurent Motor Inn, and her last job which she enjoyed so much until her retirement was as a hairdressing assistant for approximately 23 years. Eileen always looked on the bright side of things and never asked for much. Holidays were very special, you knew you were in for a treat of homemade pies, meatballs, and many other homemade dishes enough to feed an army. She always decorated the house for the holidays and it was such a warm and loving atmosphere when you walked in the house. I have never met anyone else who could sing a song about any word you say. She could make you laugh even if all you want to do is cry and she would hold back her own tears even when she was in so much pain just so the people around her would not feel bad. She had such unconditional love, and her family felt that always. She was always worried about everyone else, even in her sickest days, always making sure everyone was ok. She loved and was loved. Service time Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Rosary at 10:30 a.m. St. Laurent Catholic, Church, St. Laurent, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southwest District Palliative Care, Inc. MacKenzie Funeral Chapel Stonewall 204-467-2525 mackhome@ mts.net

Condolences & Memories (23 entries)

  • Hi Mom, It's been ten years since your beautiful spirit left us. It seems like just yesterday we were swinging on your porch swing together talking and snuggling. I think about you everyday and I feel you around me watching over me and my kids, grandkids and all of our family. I would give anything to have one more day with you, one more hug, one more kiss, one more dance. I miss your spunky, fun, loving, kind heart. I will miss you and love you always but I will never forget you or stop thinking about you everyday. You were very special. The best mom in the world! Rest in peace beautiful spirit. • It is only now in late September that I was googling friends I grew up with when I saw that Eileen had passed. It made me very sad for as a young boy growing up in St. Laurent and Oak Point my friends' parents played a large role in who I came to be. Mrs. Blais always treated me/us as her own. A warm smile and a laugh could always be afforded by her. My deepest condolences to Laurel, Yvette, Dennis, Eddie, Cherie, and Suzanne ..... and all of St. Laurent. With much love. • Always a joy to see, always a smile and always made me feel welcome. A long time ago, no check that, a very long time ago, Eileen left an impression on me and probably many of the young ones hanging around in the late 1970s. She definitely made Laurel look not so scary. Whew, I was glad about that. You are missed and you are loved. - Posted by: Mike deLaronde (A distant memory and a contender for future son in law) on: Apr 17, 2013

  • Eileen, I will NEVER forget our last memory together, I went to st. laurent with uncle dennis and auntie lisa for a week or 2 and one day I decided to go for a nice walk in the beautiful weather we had on this particular day... and during the start of my walk I noticed some birds on a wire, when suddenly they starred swooping down at me and attacking me!! And I RAN as fast as I can back to your place and when I came inside I told you I was getting attacked and you said "oh that was YOU that ran by the window! I saw that and wondered what it was! And it was your hair!" Then you started laughing hysterically and said "that takes the cake" and so the name "birdboy" came about :-) we laughed so much that day about that and it puts a smile on my face everytime I think about it, this is an amazing last memory I have of you. You were perfect in every detail and I will forever hold that in my heart <3 and never forget the love and welcome you made me feel. R.I.P memere - Posted by: birdboy (family ) on: Apr 15, 2013

  • I will always remember Eileene as a warm funny person. You were always welcome to her home and would always ask if I would like something to eat or drink. We had a few good laughs together when we joked around. Anytime I would say something about her or Laurel she would always say to me " you're sick" and we would have a good laugh. Both Penny and I send our condolences and hearts goes out to Laurel and the entire family. - Posted by: Vern & Penny Walkin (Friend) on: Apr 15, 2013
