Ray leaves to mourn his loving wife of 44 years, Mary, daughter Wendy (Bill) Chambers and grandchildren, Katie, Ben and Carson. Ray was predeceased by his parents Joe and Sella Bergman and parents-in-law, Joe and Kay Hurak. He is survived by his sister Lorraine (Arni) Melsted, brothers David (Mary Anne) Bergman, Ken (Deanna) Bergman, Richard (Barbara) Bergman, and Mary's brothers and sisters, Richard (Margaret) Hurak, Edward Hurak, Alfred (Joanne) Hurak, Jerry (Carol) Hurak, Joan (Keith) Kristofferson and Betty (Andy) Lubinski, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was born and raised in the Arborg area. He graduated from Red River College as a journeyman electrician and after a few years in the construction trade, he worked for the Province of Manitoba for 34 years. Ray spent most of these years with Natural Resources, primarily at Provincial Parks and then later worked as an electrical inspector with the Provincial Department of Labour. Ray made many good friends during his employment with the government that he remained in contact with long after his retirement in 2007. Ray was well respected for his extensive knowledge and expertise in his line of work and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need of assistance when it came to any kind of mechanical or electrical repair work. He had a reputation of fixing the unrepairable and eagerly and successfully lived up to this expectation. Ray was a very sociable and outgoing individual who loved to dance and attend social gatherings and was especially fond of engaging in lengthy chats with his many friends and was always willing and eager to make new friends. Ray was especially proud of his Icelandic heritage and was a member of the Icelandic Club and finally fulfilled a lifelong dream by recently visiting Iceland with his wife Mary in 2012. He also loved spending time at his cottage in Lac du Bonnet, with his precious grandchildren where they would all spend quality time out on his boat. A celebration of Ray's life will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place with a private interment at a later date. I was lucky enough to know Ray and to have him in our family. He was so talented, he wired our house and he was always only a phone call away if Andy had a question. When Ray and Andy got into the garage and started up with shop talk, Mary and I knew that we should just go back into the house to sit down. Ray we will miss you ..... You didn't let life pass you by, you lived it. You made a great impact in so many lives and especially ours. Enjoy flying with the angels! You never have to suffer and feel pain again. Love you Ray .... Andy and Betty. - Posted by: Betty Lubinski (Brother-in-law) on: Apr 18, 2013

Although it is part of life it doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye. And yet we are reminded again that life is too short and hold on to your dear loved ones closer! Where to begin? Mr. Bergman has been a huge part of our lives, as far as I can remember. He has been a huge member of the Werestiuk family. His quick charm and candor with people and kids were especially one of his greatest qualities. He was always the next one to call if my father wasn’t equipped to fix anything electrical. He would show up in his van, plaid shirt, cap and glasses and ready to fix anything for a bowl of ice cream. My sincere regards to Mrs. Bergman, cousin Wendy, Bill and kids for their loss. See you at the service…would not miss it! Regards - Shelley Middlestead (Werestiuk) - Posted by: Shelley Middlestead (Family Friend) on: Apr 18, 2013

Mary, It is with my deepest sympathy to hear the loss of your husband so fast. Ray was a great man, husband, father, grandfather, brother and a good friend to all who knew Ray. I've known Ray for 30 plus years, going back to our days at Natural Resources, although I'm not retired yet, but I used to join the retirees Christmas luncheons that Ray would organize at the Regent Casino, every December for sometime now. I'm glad I had the chance to meet you and some of your family at Ray's retirement. My Condolences to you Mary and your daughter Wendy and Family. Take care and God bless. - Posted by: Joe Cordeiro (Friend and Co-worker) on: Apr 18, 2013

My sincere condolences to all of Ray's family. Ray had his Water Resource office next to mine for many years. He was the very definition of the word "integrity". Although we did not share social events, we always spent good times relating projects which were of mutual interest to both of us as late as last December at Water Resource annual dinner. I, along with many other retired former employees can be heard saying" Your job on this Planet was well done Ray" - Posted by: Roger Leuzinger (Friend and co worker for many years) on: Apr 18, 2013

Met Ray through mutual friends and also ocassionally played softball against his school. Spent many hours together on the school bus while attending Riverton High School. Later Ray told me about his "room and board" accommodation where I joined him for quite a while. Ray was a great friend, a friend one could share your deepest thoughts with. He was a friend you could rely on and trust. After moving from Winnipeg we always kept in touch, sometimes not as often as we could have. I will miss you my friend.....til later, where we will reminisce once again! - Posted by: Don Hladky (Schoolmate, roommate and friend) on: Apr 17, 2013
