JAMES MERVYN HAMILTON James Mervyn Hamilton, born August 11, 1927 to parents Jim and Elizabeth (nee Scott), the eldest of eight, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Glenboro Personal Care Home at the age of 85. Mervyn was born on the Walker farm near Stockton, moving with his parents to the Hawkins district where he lived until moving into the Glenboro Personal Care Home in March 2004. He attended Hawkins school, coming to Glenboro School for high school by horseback! Following high school Mervyn enrolled in the two-year Diploma course at the University of Manitoba. He was recipient of the Governor General's Medal for General Proficiency. He bought John Brown's farm in 1959 and farmed it with the home farm. In 1964 he was awarded the Nuffield Scholarship and spent six months observing farm methods in the British Isles. He visited his sisters and families in Bermuda and Montreal on the way home. In April 2002 Mervyn was presented with his 50-year Jewel from the Glenboro Masonic Lodge and at the time of his death was a member in good standing with the Carberry Masonic Lodge. He belonged to the 4-H Seed and Calf Clubs, Glenboro Curling Club and the Glenboro Agricultural Society. He was a member of the Hilton United Church. Mervyn was proud to be a Mason, enjoyed hunting, logging and especially teasing his nieces and nephews. Mervyn was predeceased by his parents Jim and Elizabeth, sisters Joyce Johnson, and Isobel Fairgrieve, brothers-in-law Bob Johnson, Bruce Fairgrieve and Richard Stephens. He leaves to mourn his passing brothers Jack (Eleanor) of Glenboro, Rae (Glen) of Toronto ON, Dwayne (Lorna) of Glenboro; sisters Betty (Doug) Jobbins of Melita, MB, Janice Stephens of Paget, Bermuda, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. His funeral service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Glenboro United Church with Phyllis Mulligan officiating. Interment to follow in the Glenboro Cemetery. Family and friends that so desire, donations may be made in Mervyn's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 824-18th St., Unit 3, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7 or to the Glenboro and Area Foundation, designation to the Glenboro Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, Box 147, Glenboro, MB R0K 0X0.
