ZILPHA (ZEL) SMITH
Date of Passing: Apr 13, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryZILPHA (ZEL) SMITH April 13, 2013 It is with sadness and fullness that we want you to know that Zel's life on earth has ended. She passed away on April 13, 2013 after completing a full life of 91 years. We will miss her dearly and will treasure the memories and qualities we so admire. We are grateful to have kept her so long; yet her passing will leave an enormous empty space in our worlds. Zel will be mourned by her daughters, Myrna (Bob) and Joan-Dianne (James); and by grandchildren, Bradley (Paula), Ian (Vineeta), David, Peter and Maryann. Her great-grandchildren will regrettably miss knowing her through their milestones: a sad loss for Krysta, Ryan, Maia and Lucas. She also leaves behind an extended family including sisters, Mabel and Hannah, and many nieces, nephews and cousins are also saddened by the loss of this dear lady. Zel lost Lloyd, her husband of 61 years, back in 2006. Zel was a remarkable, resilient person who was able to roll with the punches and find the joy and pleasure in close connections with others. From her farm roots in Mather and Treherne, Manitoba, Zel moved on to become a teacher. She and Lloyd lived many chapters of their story in Winnipeg, Montreal, Florida, Victoria Beach, and back to Winnipeg. She and Lloyd enjoyed a wide range of activities and had a great sense of fun. Zel's interest in people, her curiosity about life, and her ability to overcome challenges and find pleasure in the moment - no matter what the circumstances - teaches us many lessons of life. A "Celebration of Life" Service for Zel will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Elizabeth Brown of Trinity United Church presiding. Reception to follow. Interment will take place Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlands Cemetery in Treherne, Manitoba. In Zel's memory, donations will gratefully be received at the Memorial Fund, Trinity United Church, Winnipeg. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. We just talked to Debbie today (May 1) and learned of Zell's recent passing. We were both very sorry to hear this news. Although it was only in the last few years of her life that out paths crossed, it was immediately apparent that she was a very warm, engaging, and very special person. We both truly are saddened to hear this news. She had a special place in the hearts of all the Jones', and we will think of her every time we walk down 7th Ave. at Victoria Beach. Best regards to her entire family, Phil and Lynda Murray - Posted by: Phil and Lynda Murray (Friends) on: May 01, 2013
